I've actually read the forum rules, have you?twe wrote:Unless you get banned. Which will hopefully happen soon.ResOGlas wrote:If you don't like me here you might as well just ignore me. I'm here to stay.
So I guess I derailed a thread. That wasn't my intention and I'll make my efforts to not to it again. I don't even know you, why would you just make this kind of remark?

Hard?
What, you guys don't play on very hard AND you cry a lot? I know this thread is old as hell and I don't expect anybody to respond, but geez. Man up people and play on Hard/Very Hard (whatever the hardest is).

All the children are meant to comprehend the default settings of shooting games at the arcade? Yeah, easier said then done. Playing on the highest difficulty and submitting your score on the internet may raise your e-penis, but I don't know how can anyone enjoy a game like that.
It's like playing Mushi on Ultra. It's not fun.

If that was true, I wouldn't be here. I liked Vice City but GTA is only targetted at as "mainstream" due to the commercialization and fuss over the violence brought upon in the game. God forbid Rockstar make a game people WON'T complain about.Plasmo wrote:@Arznei
you sound like a mainstream gamer and his GTA games taklking about shmups: "omg they are impossibly hard you cant play shmups for fun."
shut up and post scores
btw to each his own
Some shooting games, yes, are very hard. Nothing is impossible nor have I said so, but there's some sort of breaking limit between fun and frustrating. Take Mushihime for example - Original, Arrange and Maniac is fun, but Ultra isn't. Ultra is ridiculous and not fun in any humanly way possible. When you're on the edge of your seat during the entire experience, scared, worried about dying, and all that shit, you're clearly not having fun.
And if I was a mainstream gamer, and if I did claim they were impossibly hard, why would I shut up and post scores? gb2/makingsense

The Ultra mode player on the Mushi superplay DVD (TGA-RET) said that he picked Ultra mode because he liked to dodge bullets, and when he saw Ultra it made him excited to see all the bullets, and he thought it would be a lot of fun. Many others find it fun as well. Perhaps you get 'scared' of and 'worried' about so many bullets as you say, but some of us simply get a rush from dodging bullet swarms like in Ultra mode.Arznei wrote:Take Mushihime for example - Original, Arrange and Maniac is fun, but Ultra isn't. Re: Hard?
Would you keep this stupid talk on Neo-Geo please? Geez. Resoglas mellowed out since this thread, and respects shmups now for the difficulty they posess, without trying to convince people how large his penis is.GunSpike wrote:What, you guys don't play on very hard AND you cry a lot? The Internet is working
Yep, guess the internet is working. C'mon guys, lighten up. I do like playing my shmups on the hardest difficulty (as I do a lot of my games). I just enjoy playing hard games. For the two of you that didn't flame me, kudos to you and enjoy your games. Everyone else, just chill out and don't take this too seriously. I don't really want any bad blood. Just a bit o' fun!

I play on hardest difficulty too. Yes, it's just more fun :P As an added bonus, it takes away the boredom/slowness of the early levels too. Mainly, I hate playing any game knowing it's holding back on me (guess I'm a sucker for punishment). The rush and the rewards are great, though. And you get to witness the full shot patterns in their beautiful, uncompromised glory :P
Re: the topic title, overall ddp is actually quite playable on hard... no one should find it too unenjoyable, really. Newer games get a bit crazier, but ddp isn't too bad I think.

Interesting thread, which reminds me of some other threads like "is there a good/wrong way to play shmups?"
Hiscore boards are here because we like competition. Like it or not, the rules are: play on default.
What ResOGlas did was trying to break those rules. We should thank him for this! At least, he's made some people here try to play DDP on hard, I wouldn't call this bad. So he's taunted us (maybe a bit too much and clumsily, but he apologized). And guess what, people reacted! Had he posted his score on very hard, who would have noticed? Moreover, in the most recents posts, some of us say they're happy to play games on hard in general. It's a matter of taste.
ResOGlas, as you can see, your score can easily be beaten. Now open a real score board for DDP on hard, post your score, post the other scores and try to improve! If necessary, ask question, don't be arrogant, and people will help you.
Thanks to the moderators for not locking this thread too soon because it was a bit hot

I think this is the bit a lot of people miss: Arcade games are designed with the knowledge that they will usually be installed and left on defaults. Therefore, they are designed with the 'Default' difficulty setting in mind. It's not like they start with Very Hard, then remove stuff for Default. In most games, it's more like they design the game around default, take it down a notch for Easy, and just stick some extra things in for Hard. But it should be fairly obvious that most of the thought in game design generally goes into the default difficulty level. Default, to my mind, is the real game. Anything higher is just a tacked-on bonus.umi wrote:Mainly, I hate playing any game knowing it's holding back on me (guess I'm a sucker for punishment).

Difficult is just a progression on medium, as medium is on easy... it's still essentially the same game (obviously). An arcade owner's prime concern is of course a balance between the time the player spends playing on an average credit, and motivation he/she has to continue spending money on credits. Luckily, this doesn't apply at home! :P Having said that, I have a few memories of arcade machines set way high up on the difficulty scale... heh. Sometimes they'd tack more lives on to make up for it. Whatever, I just wish they'd put the Raiden Fighters machine back at the local arcade, I don't care how hard it is... closest thing to a real game they have there is Metal Slug 3 :( If I ever want a deer-shooting sim though, I know where to go though.Eps wrote:I think this is the bit a lot of people miss: Arcade games are designed with the knowledge that they will usually be installed and left on defaults.
