Affordable component selectors + CRT setup

Post by VEGETA »

Hello

I've been searching for some affordable component switchers/selectors with few inputs. I only need 2 since I have PS2 component cable + RGB2COMP output which takes all my other consoles' SCART cables.

I found the following:

1- LinkStyle 3 in 1 component switcher.

2- Philips SWS2326W/17 automatic selector.

3- Philips PH61148 manual selector.

Philips ones seem high quality and affordable price, with HD in their name I get that it supports faster signals like 1080i or 480p not just standard definition. 99% of my needs are mere SD though.

The LinkStyle one is the recommended by Amazon and the cheapest.

What is your recommendation?

Anyone tried any of these?

Can you offer another option?

As for my setup, here it is:

I have about 7 consoles with SCART cables which will be hooked in the future to a SCART switch, then the output of the SCART switch goes into RGB2COMP which is then taken to Sony Trinitron WEGA SW292M80 29" CRT. the connection from RGB2COMP to CRT is via high quality Monster cables, very thick and shielded.

However, my only component cable is just the PS2 via HDRV cables. I feel like the best solution is to ditch this cable now and get a SCART PS2 cable. this way I won't need any component switcher at all.

For your opinion please! your input is appreciated.

HD Retrovision recommends this generic one for $20: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M4LOU12
They also recommend the Pelican PL-970, which you can find many of on eBay for $20: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=pelican+pl-970

Thanks for your reply.

the generic one is exactly the one I posted.

However, still I am interested in the Philips ones if anyone tried them. If not, then I will go with others.

On the other side of things, I may consider ditching the component cable for PS2 and just get a SCART cable for it which eliminates the need for the switch. what do you think about this?

I have two SWS2326W/17 daisy chained together and they work great never had any problems with them,as for the PH61148 on mine most of the buttons died so not much I could do with it.

It depends on your set-up. Usually Component will deliver a better picture, but if everything else is SCART, why not just go with SCART? Can't SCART cables display YPbPr video modes as well? RetroRGB explains: https://www.retrorgb.com/playstation2.html

For what it's worth, I have that generic component selector, and it works fine for me.
