I'm in the midst of beginning to recap the only CRT I have in my tiny apartment. The unit is already discharged, and I removed the motherboard a few months ago right before quarantine hit. Then, I was looking into modding S-Video into the unit but have found little documentation about the Jungle Chip, the CXA-1013AS.
Has anybody attempted such a thing? All I can guess is probably use the diagram from this thread as a starter.
I know I'm bumping a two year old thread, but since I plan on modding a similar set for a friend, I thought I'd contribute my idea. If nothing else, perhaps it could help someone who has this model TV.
Bear in mind that this modification will require a DPDT switch, some connectors (preferably Duponts), wires, and of course, a 4-pin Mini-DIN connector.
For Luma, what I would try is desolder the output leg of C315 closest to the jungle chip, solder its main board pad to a wire routing to Pin 3 (the upper center pin) of the switch, and solder the capacitor to a wire routing to Pin 1 (upper left pin) of the switch. Solder Pin 3 (upper right pin when facing the front) of your S-Video connector to DPDT Pin 5 (upper right pin) with a 100 nF capacitor in series and a 75 ohm resistor to chassis ground.
For Chroma, try desoldering the output leg of R312 closest to the jungle chip, solder the pad to a wire routing to Pin 4 (lower center pin) of the switch, solder the resistor leg to a wire to Pin 2 (lower left pin) of the switch, and solder Pin 4 (upper left pin when facing the front) of the S-Video connector to Pin 6 of the switch with a 100 nF capacitor in series and a 75 ohm resistor to chassis ground.
Please note that this modification has not been tested and therefore has a chance of not working without any additional steps not mentioned. I am not responsible if you damage anything when performing this mod. Proceed at your own risk.
