Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Operation Tiger - Taito
I personally like Op Wolf III in all its rough digitized glory. Will have to give this one a shot, though it's a bit shame it looks so rough as the hardware looks like an unsuccessful attempt to evolve past the G-NET system (and therefore past PlayStation hardware). Wonder if changing the name hurt brand recognition, too.
Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Vendetta - 5/9
Killer game (in its JP Crime Fighters 2 incarnation, as well). A rare Technos-styled visceral beatdown from the post-Final Fight boom. Beat 'em until they're doubled over in agony, then really give 'em something to cry about.

ACA version is laggy? Was there a test showing this?
Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Vendetta - 5/9
As always when a Switch version exists, the platform has to be specified. "The port is laggy" is an ambiguous statement otherwise, thanks to whatever Nintendo screwed up. I'm gonna take a wild guess that it's the Switch one being referred to, as with SNK40th's Search And Rescue a while back.
The PS4 one? I'd be surprised to hear someone describe it as noticeably laggy, assuming their controller and monitor are competent. Compared with ShmupMAME (2f), I don't notice a difference. I've 2ALLed it on PS4 with Boomer and Hawk, and will get Nomiss 2ALLs of both up this summer (while thoroughly excellent, it's not all that hard a game by arcade beater standards).
You can see me stuffing that Kung Fu's attack and kneeing his balls after letting him break free in the GIF above, it's a snap. So's jabbing Missing Link out of his tracking butt-stomp.
RE the video, the giant hockey mask guys are terrified of cats, which lurk under boxes at random. Exploit their cataphobia mercilessly for a free 50% discount when you face two of them at the endgame.
I suspect someone at Konami just liked drawing cats, ala Rondo/Nocturne.

Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Vendetta - 5/9
Also, it annoys me that there's a whole video of ACA Vs. SMB about the lag, despite it being lowered in an update (and the video wasn't even checked/updated). Not sure how much is still there, but I could definitely get past the infamous 6-3 as consistently as on real hardware (using a hack of Vs. SMB from a NES/FC flashcart) after the update. I'm under the impression that the ACA games generally have more lag than on PS4, but it's definitely not the level of the City Connection Cotton ports.
Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Vendetta - 5/9
That's been my experience with ACA too, via PS4. Comparing directly to the MVS carts of Metal Slug 1, X and 3, plus Shock Troopers, I couldn't feel any perceptible difference when moving to the ACA versions, and nailing down 1LCs in all four plus MS4 and MS5 (running the CMVS and PS4 on a trusty old CRT and a low-latency BenQ monitor, respectively).BrianC wrote:Also, it annoys me that there's a whole video of ACA Vs. They're accurate to a fault, if anything, reproducing even the input drops that occur at MS1's fifth boss (extra care needed when dealing with his pincer rockets, while you're underneath him - the game drops to a heaving crawl around there, on hardware and ACA alike, enough that you need to hold [left/right] to pivot, rather than merely tapping).
The only times I've noticed lag in PS4 ACA releases, it's turned out to be the same way on actual hardware. Sunset Riders, for example... on PCB, MAME, and ACA alike, try feathering the [down] input. Your character will never enter crouch; the game code requires ~5f unbroken input to respond (strictly a layman's conjecture: I suspect it's due to SR having two distinct crouch states, with separate animations and mechanics; one for solid ground that fires straight ahead, ala Contra, and one for balconies and ledges etc, letting you fire on enemies below).
All other directional inputs, along with jumping and firing, come out next-frame (so will crouching, if you're landing from a jump while holding [down] on the controller.

There's also The Lord Of King, which I've anecdotally confirmed is noticeably laggy on even its original Mega System board, and likewise MAME and ACA. (not unplayably at all, but if you're sensitive to input latency, you'll probably notice something's slightly off).
Anyway, awbacon, it'd be helpful if you specified which platforms you're referring to. Just anecdotally, I swore off the PS4 entirely for like five years, after Mihara's infamous ACA Gradius demo. Either his monitor, or his stick, or both were laggy... whatever the reason, he completely shat all over Gotch's usual fine work. I only gave the platform another chance when Sumez vouched for Gotch's similarly excellent ACA Bubble Bobble, because he takes his Bubble Bobbles deadly seriously (as should we all!)
Turn enough paranoiac types like me off and Hamster may not make it to Violent Storm.
If you were on PS4 all along, my apologies for assuming. I'd be genuinely surprised, though, as someone who enjoys testing his games' controls and mechanics to destruction before settling in for clear attempts. A compulsion as fiendish as The Hard Gaming itself!

Re: All my YT videos in one spot - Metal Slug 7 - 5/11
Metal Slug XX's PS4 version, now there's a laggy port. Oof. Feels like ditching a weighted vest, when I return to the ACA Slugs.
It's a fookin disgrace 3:<

Holy fuck, I was JUST complaining yesterday to someone that Pitchford wouldn't let this come out. Crom has answered my prayers.
