CPS1 Street Fighter 2 Kick Harness Issues

Post by Trevor spencer »

Hi

Having a nightmare here , I knew I shouldn't of dug my old arcade boards out lol.

Anyway I'm sure when I put my game away it was working fine but now I can't get the kicks to work.

All the wiring is sound , I've tried testing as much ad I can and all seems good but I don't truly know how to trouble shoot connectivity on the C board as looking underneath I can't see any traces coming from the kick harness connector.

Can anyone tell me how I can fully trouble shoot this please.

Thanks

First things first, make sure all socketed chips are firmly pressed into their sockets and all boards in the stack are firmly seated. There are many chips unrelated to this issue, but it doesn't hurt to take these steps as a matter of preventative maintenance and process of elimination.

The kick connector goes through some ferrites right there adjacent to the connector, through some resistor arrays, then through a ls245. Check the ls245 first with a logic probe, see if theres anything misbehaving there. Check the ferrites for continuity. If all looks okay on those, you'll have to pull the RA's to test them (resistance testing).

If everything checks out so far there, then trace back from the ls245 and start troubleshooting down the line.

My money is on the ls245 or a floating connection, but these old boards have random failures all the time, no way to say "oh its definitely that" without putting in the time to check everything in order.

If what I'm describing doesnt line up with what is populated on your c board, then please post a pic of it.

Hi

https://ibb.co/1QkkcDY

Unfortunately I don't have a logic probe but I did reset a lot of chips but it's still not working.

Also seems my C board dosnt have a LS245

It's very basic compared to my old CE board , I've checked continuity on the blue "ferrits" and they seem good.

Been doing a bit of reading ref CPS1 repairs and it seems CR084 keeps coming up as a common fault , I have 2 CR084's right next to the kick harness.

Not sure if these could be the problem and not sure how to test them properly.

Thanks
