I found out afterward that the PS5 version is a completely separate purchase on the Japanese PSN store. Most shmup fans seem to have a thing for physical releases so maybe this isn't an issue for some but WOW am I kicking myself for this. I've never seen anything like this, either. I mean there's no option to do a paid PS5 upgrade or anything.
Does anyone know what's different about the PS5 version? The resolution looks like it could stand to improve from what I tried so far, but maybe it's just quicker load times (even Gleylancer got a PS5 version).
Accidentally got the PS4 version of Raiden IV x Mikado

Usually on older games there is no difference, so you're better off buying the PS4 version every time because you can play it on both PS4 and PS5 and get the faster loading on PS5, while the PS5 only version will not play on the PS4.
Some games actually have a PS5 version of course and there is an additional charge for it, but I have yet to see that with retro games.
I tried to look up this game to see if there are any PS5 extras, but I didn't see anything from 3 sites, I would assume there isn't and you actually purchased the better version.

Did you not stop to read the product description first?
Yeah, Microsoft just give people free upgrades on cross-generation Xbox games, but Sony love this tactic of making people pay extra for the "upgraded PS5 version" of games, or just buying the same game twice, when it is just a scummy cash-grab.
