Shooters Fes 2022 - April 2/3

Post by FunktionJCB »

I'm sure most of my fellow forum members are aware of this weekend's event, but for those that are not, Shooters Fes 2022 is now live.
It's a two day event, featuring plenty of companies like Cave, Pyramid, Hamster, M2, City Connection, Grazella, Platinum Games, and more, that is sure to bring us some announcements.

The official website is at:
https://shootersfes.com/

Twitter:

Besides the original Japanese streams, City Connection is hosting English Streams for both days, which you can find at the following links:

Day 1 English Stream (Saturday, April 2nd; currently streaming live):

Sorry.

Since I'm usually the last guy to find out about these Japanese events and streams, I thought everyone was already aware of it, and as usual, I was the one out of synch, since I only found out about it today, a couple of hours into the event.

I just got back from it. Got to meet Toyama Yuuchi, Horii Naoki, and Namiki Manabu there. Good shit.

Not sure if I will go tomorrow, but I might.

I didn't catch most of it but City Connection are bringing Metal Black to PS4, Xbox, Switch and Steam.

Metal Black is so-so as a shmup, but its vibe is second to none. Really would have liked to see Taito take another crack at a game in this style.

It's cool for ports but whhhhhhhy do they have to be these stupid saturn tributes? Do it hamster style at the least, don't use a middling sega saturn emulator when you HAVE THE ACTUAL ROMS! None of these are STV games so they don't need the added latency of a reboxed SSF on top of things.

Yeah I don't get it either (aside from no$talgic reasons that is).

Are the RayForce Saturn ports significantly different from the arcade version? Or is it the same with extra lag?

it's not even arcade at that point. Saturn rayforce: different difficulty, different extend rate, different enemy layouts, missing graphical effects...

It's like, why bother? RayForce et al. deserved an M2 collection like Darius did.

Uh... the only thing I really have is that Toyama-san told me that ST-V isn't possible on Arcade Archives lol.

What about Taito F3? Most of those are from this hardware originally and I tend to believe that Hamster don't have the guts for it either.

S-Tribute Layer Section has its own thread here, btw:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69646

As I mentioned there, the problem with these announcements is that we can say goodbye now to any possible M2 Shottriggers or Arcade Archives release of the original games.

Strange they didn't announce Bubble Symphony, though.

I'd have to check the hardware of the F3 again... I looked it up when that Layer Section leak happened a while ago, but I forgot how it compares to the ST-V/Saturn. Toyama-san mentioned the ST-V being impossible on ACA because we were talking about Soukyuugurentai and I mentioned that I'd love to have ACA Soukyuugurentai or M2 ShotTriggers Soukyuugurentai and he was like yeah, Hamster can't do ST-V on ACA, unfortunately. I hope City Connection Layer Section isn't super laggy this time, but I do think it's super weird that they chose Layer Section instead of RayForce.

Puzzle Bubble 2x is a questionable choice, as well. The NeoGeo port of Vanilla 2 is already on ACA and the Saturn port of 2x, while having a nice edit mode, has broken stereo. Last I checked, even the US BAM2 version is reasonably priced. It still has everything intact, including the nice seasonal 2x exclusive attract modes, unlike the actual US standalone arcade version of vanilla 2. 3 is questionable too since the PSX port got all the bells and whistles this time around (it also seems laggy on PS2, despite not being documented anywhere. It's fine on PS1).

Didn't know that 2X had broken stereo on Saturn. How exactly?

Neo Geo's PB2 is a downgraded port, anyway. Nothing dealbreaking, mind you, but for a game where the color is so important, it somehow feels slightly off graphics(and audio)-wise.

Which are the differences between Playstation's PB3 and the Saturn/F3 versions?

And yeah, the F3 System was likely the most advanced hardware for 2D graphics right after ST-V. Mamedev were always afraid of it and it shows.

Poorly mixed and music is too quiet. Sounds much better in Mono. I have both the US and JP versions and both versions have the same issue. NeoGeo PB2 isn't the better version, but it is the easier version to get running on weaker hardware with less input lag. TBH, I don't know for sure if PB3DX is the better version, just that it has extra stuff like an edit mode. I know it was mentioned that the PS1 version had long load times, but I didn't notice any long load times. It did however have some odd issues on PS2 that I'm not sure is the disc or the game's fault (I'm guessing the latter since it runs fine on the PS One, though it's the US BAM '99 version I have). It's possible it could be an issue with a specific PS1 model. Final Fantasy Anthology had issues with the early PS1 models that used standard AV instead of the proprietary cables used in all later models.

It was a good show, but a bit chaotic. I watched the official English stream on Youtube and skimmed through most of it, just to watch game footage and skip all the banter.

My biggest disappointments were the lack of new games on Exa-Arcadia, and the complete lack of Strikers 202X.

As ZeroDiv / City Connection are making the game, and Strikers 202X is officially announced as "Exa-Arcadia Exclusive" i was expecting some kind of gameplay footage, or at least some mention of it's development progress.

At least Akai Katana is confirmed to be releasing on Nintendo Switch, so that made me happy. :D
