Fast Striker playable on PS5?

So I got a PS5 recently. I never owned a PS4 so was going back and getting ps4 exclusive shmups. I bought Fast Striker and downloaded it but it doesn't seem to run right. It starts playing a techno track as soon as I load the game up and it just plays that song during a black screen. The system does not hang, I can open the home bar menu and close the game normally and go back out to the UI no problem, the hardware doesn't seem to be having issues just this game. Is this a known thing? Is it my system? I run the console in 720p could that be it? Anyone here have a PS5 and the game and see if it runs? Could this be a game that slipped through the Sony Backwards compat program as not playable?

I just played Fast Striker on my PS5 digital edition console. No problems. I'm running the game at 4K resolution on a LG HDTV. It was playing off an external Samsung T7 SSD hard drive.

I hadn't yet played the game on this particular console. So there was no save data until just now when I played it. I don't know what your issue is, but I would clear all save data and try it again.

I tried deleting the save and then deleting the game and redownloading it. Same issue. I wonder if it's the 720 P res? I have a 720 P tv I can't even do 1080.

Is there any way you could lower your res to 720 for a sec and see if it still works? It'd be funny if it only ran at 1080 or higher heh.

It turns out that the problem does seem to be lower resolutions. I tried 720p on Fast Striker and got a black screen much like yours.

When I had my 720p TV the sets typically accepted 1080i input though of course that isn't what you'd get on the screen. I'm sure some sets went on to accept 1080p input as well. Maybe if you change the PS5's output you can get the game to play, even though the settings won't "match".

I can try to force 1080i and see if that does it.

FWIW, isn't Fast Striker crap anyway? I got it in one of the sales and I don't think it lasted a week on my machine. Certainly, it's no competition for the others you're playing.

I've been hoping for a Neo XYX port but it looks like they upped their game significantly between those two.

It’s not great but to be honest I owned it on Dreamcast back when it first released but sold the disk years ago and just wanted it back, warts and all.

They are nice games, and you should not feel like you're justifying playing them because "elite shmuppers dont approve it".

There is so much more out there than just results of top25 voting, you know.

Rezion EX in particular I found to be quite enjoyable. I considered it for my Top 25 but left it off due to recency bias. If I feel as strongly about it as I do now I'll try to make room for it on the next vote.

I enjoy NGDEV. Not top 25 but definitely nice! I love Razion EX, so so happy it got ported to Switch.

I only sold my old DC copy of Fast Striker due to circumstance. I'm happy to play it again
