Any experience with the Panasonic TX-21V1E

Post by callebalik »

I like the design. Just the right size for me. Believe it’s from 1992. 2 scart inputs, one which is supposed to take RGB according to the manual. Speaker and rca output. S-video as well.

What’s the picture/tube like? What are the options for picture/geometry adjustments? Service menu?

Cheers,

Any experience with Panny consumer CRTs in general?

I have a BT-1490Y which I’m happy with. On the consumer side, my first TV that I bought as a kid was a 32 inch widescreen Panasonic quintrix. It served me well but back then I didn’t have the knowledge to evaluate/appreciate it with what I know today. I have also had a 42 inch Panasonic plasma which I really enjoyed. My brother still use it! Had really low input lag (16-20ms) compared to other sets on the market at that time. Great picture as well.

Can't speak for specific models as it's been too long and I don't remember the numbers, but I love Panasonic CRT's.

In Europe they had some aperture grille models in the early 2000's like around 2001~2002 and they were really nice. I think the rest of the 2000 models were invar shadow mask which are like flat shadow mask tubes with some of the benefits of aperture grille. I love Panasonic CRT's from that era. Imo close second to Sony's, and slightly ahead of the Toshiba's, but all three brands are great.

Looked up the model and dang - I'd pick that up in a heartbeat, unless they are asking for a relatively high amount of money. Sleek design, lots of controls on the front panel, and the speaker outputs! Speaker outputs are *usually* what companies would include on their higher-end models of TVs, so that's a pretty good indicator that this unit's gonna be niceeee

I agree on the outputs, and it has some interesting buttons and features on the front. That's a really nice looking TV.

The remote even has what look like geometry controls under the flip-over panel, but I can't really tell from the photos.

Edit: Those controls are for positioning when in TeleText mode.

Happy to see others enjoy the aesthetics of the set. And yes, outputs and inputs are great! Big question for me right now is, how does it perform picture-wise. Really tempted to pick this one up. It’s located on the other side of the country and seller won’t ship. Also, guess it’s considered quite expensive as well. CRT and PVM market here is pretty crazy. Have paid $1500 for a 20F1E and $1100 for a DT-V1710cg.

What would you guys pay for this panasonic?

Cheers

I'd pay €0 - €20, but in Ireland TVs like this are not rare. If I had to pay more for a CRT I would.

It looks like this TV uses the Alpha-2 chassis. Details are here:

That is an analog chassis with manual picture adjustments on the board. I think with Alpha-3 they went digital.
