Doujin shmups from early 2000s

Post by Shatterhand »

I am trying to remember the name of two doujin shmups I used to play a long time ago. (I actually would love to remember the name of a few more Doujin from that era, I played so many of them and some were really good).

One was all about grazing bullets. When you grazed bullets you fired extra lasers that made more points than your normal shots, and you could even play a mode with grazing only. One thing I remember about this game is that it had at least 2 different versions, one with very simple graphics and another with better graphics.

The other one had "Creature" on the title for sure, I remember having some really good graphics and it showed the health of the enemies right on top of them when they got hit. I remember this one ALSO had 2 different versions, one with a 16 on the title, the other one with a 256 on the title.

I doubt I'll be able to run those games on Windows 10 nowadays , but I still would like to give it a try.

There are other 2 I remember really enjoying, but I barely remember them. One had a gimmick where you would graze bullets to fill an energy bar, and when it was fully filled, you could use a strong weapon, and enemies killed with it would give way more points. The other one had all levels on space, and I remember you could choose between 2 ships, a slower one with a spread weapon, and a faster one with concentrated fire. I also remember it used to show the amount of bullets on screen in a number at the corner, but I remember this being a normal feature of doujins at that time, as if there was some kind of challenge to have more bullets on screen than the other games.

That last one you described sounds exactly like Graze Counter but I'm pretty sure that's new? Even though it looks and sounds like a game I'd have played in 2006.

Man, this thread reminds me of one I played called Soil: The True Blue. Found it in I think 2008, but I'm pretty sure it was older. Can't even find it anymore. Last time I had it on my drive I couldn't even get it running. It didn't have SFX unfortunately, but I remember liking it's graphics and music. And it had that chunky Super Nintendo scifi look I love. If anyone's got that, DM me please.
