Regional and Revision Differences in shoot em ups

What are some notable differences of shoot em ups between region and revisons whether they be arcade games or console games/console ports. ones i know of are in the english arcade releases of Gradius and Gradius II called Nemesis and Vulcan Venture they added the option of continuing however it Nemesis its limited. And in Salamanders third revision Japanese Life Force they furthered the Biological Theming of the game while also altering the bosses and power up system to be more like Gradius and including extra music tracks.
