So this game just went on sale for 2 bucks on PS4, I bought it and was curious what other people thought of this little known shmup.

At first I didn't like it, but after getting into the leveling and weapons it is growing on me. This game feels a lot like an RPG/shmup mix.

Also the free training levels are interesting, you need to accomplish goals to progress to the next challenge, something you don't see in shooters very much.

For two bucks it's worth checking out (but it won't be everyone's cup of tea), however at the full 20 dollars I would avoid it.

I imagine 99% of the people on this forum hate it to death. I don't mind it so much, but probably mostly cause I'm a big EDF fan. This is just a pretty messy 3D shmup with weird mechanics and janky visuals. If you're looking for a high quality shmup that'll rock your socks off and that you'll be replaying for score, look somewhere else. If you just want a silly fun game that doesn't really play like any other shmup and you don't mind a lot of D3 jank, then maybe check it out.

Not to mention I had about four crashes in 48 hours on a PS4. Unless they are being very meta, having the player literally "fight bugs".

Wow looking great, i am a very big fan of EDF,
until they deleted my progression after update, i wont play it again, still mad, farmed for many weeks.

Sounds about right

D3 games have always had a decent amount of jank to them, but the games are still mostly great despite those "bugs" and it's worth fighting through some crashes to keep playing. I've never had saved data deleted like this other guy mentioned, but that's a different kind of jank

So I contacted D3 about the constant crashing, and here is the response:

"Hello, this is D3PUBLISHER.
Thank you for contacting us.

Regarding the matter of your inquiry, we would like you to attempt the following contents to check if the issue will be improved.

-Update the System Software of PS4 to the latest version.
Operations: Settings > System Software Update.

-Update the game version to the latest.
Operations：Select the game in Library > Press the options button > Check for Update

-Re-install the original HDD.
If you have upgraded the Hard Disk Drive ("HDD") in your system, please re-install the original HDD.

If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to Settings > Initialization and choose Initialize PS4.

In case the issue persists we kindly suggest you to contact PlayStation Support since there is a strong chance that your PS4 console may be the cause of the issue."


So it's MY fault EDF doesn't work, and not crappy programming and lack of QA. Got it.

I thought they use unreal engine now, at least for the version 5 they do.
If this one is still self-programmed, then they say your HD is broken, they should have say :
sorry, now we use unreal engine so it has less bugs literally, maybe next time better, keep buying.

I still want this game, i bet it is not available on disc with all those bugs.
They dont have the hype like cyberpunk to sell bugs like that.

This game is made in Unity not Unreal or in house engine. I bought it on sale because of this thread and love EDF but my first experience was it crashing before I could even start the game. Since then I've had 2 more crashes. I know it's easy to jump on Unity but plenty of super polished games are Unity(ori and the blind forest, hollow knight etc) so it's on the dev.

It may be worth trying to finish the game once on easy, I liked the final level.

I don't know anything about programming, is Unity bad on PS4? Or a substandard engine?

Oh, and according to the devs, it's YOUR FAULT the game is crashing.

Maybe the saving is per playstation-profile, that would explain the loss of all save-data, i have to check in my old profile, profiles sucks.

Got this game yesterday, and in my case it didn't crashed. I guess they've fixed it.
After learning the hard way how to clear the Hardest and Inferno missions on the main games, I guess its back to armor racking for a long while.

BTW, how can I get the six Extra Missions?
