Favorite Treasure game part 1

Dynamite Headdy would be my favorite as i think the gameplay is quite good i like the bosses unique attacks and looks the visuals are very vibrant for a sega genesis game and the soundtrack is really good too.

I guess that and Ikaruga will be in part 2.

Alien Soldier my pick. I remember Guardian Heroes fondly but haven't played it in a long time. What do you guys think of Guardian Heroes?

Man this is hard. I genuinely love all but one of these games. I guess I would go for Dynamite Heady because it's just so unique. Never played anything close to it. Thanks BTW for the thread.. I have a deep love for Treasure games and it's always nice having an excuse talking about them.

Yeah kind of a weird list. Gradius V is on the list, yet Ikaruga came before and isn’t?

Headdy. Love that game.
You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Definitely Gradius V, but it's close because Ikaruga and Gunstar Heroes are some extremely beloved titles for me.
I loved the change in density and presentation in Gradius V. I know some people would gripe about the lack of thematic variation, but I found to prefer the over representation of Core Warships in that game compared to others. I love those guys and they were insane in this game. I only ever had about 4 or 5 PS2 games growing up out of choice, but I played Gradius V for a decade. Really really great game.

Speaking of Gradius V, I pulled this in Master Duel last night. c:

I like how faithful the effect is to the specific events of the game when you think about it.

Oh man, tough choice. Treasure made a lot of classics. I went with Gunstar. I love that game and I think it's one of the all time great run n' guns. So much fun.

I'll surely be picking Ikaruga when that comes up in a future poll.

Astro Boy, the Bleach DS fighting games, and Mischief Makers are super under rated. 99% of developers never reach those heights, and those will likely be afterthoughts on the poll.

Possibly Alien Soldier! Need to spend more time with it though! Close second would be Ikaruga. Have yet to play Radiant Silvergun.

Yeah, I think you could pretty safely delete Light Crusader off that poll if space is an issue. Probably Rakugaki as well, since it's kind of absurd to have RSG & Gradius on there but not Ikaruga.

The GBA Astro Boy game was excellent.
I might need to revisit it.

Yea it took me a while to get "the feel" of the controls, but once I did, it was Nirvana. Played it for the first time on the Switch. Great game.

I wholeheartedly agree. The 2 you mention are the weak links.

It took me absurdly long before it managed to click for me. Still not super comfortable since I still don't play it quite enough, but I can manage somewhat now.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

The control test screen right before you start stage 1 in Alien Soldier is a great opportunity to practice the controls for a few minutes and/or warm up each time you play.

All the commands in one screen, so running through each move a couple times without any enemy interference is a great way to ease in.

I love these controls, all incredibly useful but has great benefit/cost-tradeoffs.
Despite such a large-sprite protagonist you can move extremely smoothly with teleport, hovering, shoot mode change, and counter force.
Few 2D shooting games I played and it feels like I get so much better as I play rather than the game getting so much easier.

But the game is quite unforgiving, because you can be playing perfectly say halfway through the game, then accidently make a teleport instead of a shoot mode change, get caught, and get gameover in like 5 seconds.
