PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
RemoteJoyLite is a software/plugin for modded PSPs where you can capture your PSP screen (especially useful for PSP-1000s). I'm just curious if anyone has done any indepth comparisons on the two. I notice it disconnects on starting/exiting games etc. which is understandable. It works really well for using a controller hooked up to the same PC at the very least but was wondering if with my 2000 if I should just use that instead of Component > Capture Card.

RemoteJoy/RemoteJoyLite will look better than plain component for PSP. In fact, once you get done cropping and stretching your component captured video, the picture will look blurry like composite video. But component through the OSSC (with its PSP-specific sampling mode) will look excellent.AaronSR wrote:RemoteJoyLite is a software/plugin for modded PSPs where you can capture your PSP screen (especially useful for PSP-1000s). The important thing is, you won't suffer any slowdown with a component cable. The early days of YouTube were filled with Mega Man Maverick Hunter X videos that ran at a snail's pace because no one knew how to, say, overclock the PSP. And people were all too happy to shit on the game and the PSP itself because of how poorly it ran; they thought the game actually played at that speed!
Of course, if you have a PSTV, you should probably just use that with SharpScale. Should be more compatible with your capture card once you get around that pesky HDCP.
Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
RemoteJoyLite is going to look cleaner and sharper.
However you can have crashes and slowdowns and if you want to play from the preview, you'll get latency.
Using the component video out shouldn't cause crashes or slowdowns and you won't suffer latency.

Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
My capture card has no issues with it but yeah of course upscaling in OBS from component does look blurry. I guess with an OSSC its probably comparable to RJL? I do still use it simply for the ability to use a controller rather than using the actual PSP for hours and getting cramp.
Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
The PSP component is a bit "fuzzy" I guess, but it can look fine/alright if upscaled correctly, jus try it before because some displays may not work well together with the OSSC PSP mode.
If you mostly want to use a controller; you could look into a PSP Go, Vita (no video output) or a PS (Vita) TV if you'll think they could work for you.

Oh I see. Yeah I'm wanting a Go actually because I managed to grab one of those cradles awhile back which are now pretty expensive lol Only downside is I'm not a huge fan of using wireless controllers not sure if theres a way to have it plugged into something while still using the BT on the Go?

Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
For keeping my PS3 controller plugged and powered on while playing on the PSPgo, I use this PS3 AC Adaptor:
https://www.amazon.com/PS3-AC-Adaptor-V ... B09NJFJNFN
I bought mine for like $12 on eBay and I thought it was a steal. And on eBay right now they're like $40.
You might be able to charge with a Windows PC, either through Device Manager tweaking or official drivers but I never tried it.
The controller still needs enough battery to sync to the PSPgo, i.e. you can't just hit the PS button to sync while charging. So if the battery in your controller is completely dead, charge it for a minute, unplug, hit the PS button to sync, and then plug in again to charge.

Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
Awesome! Thanks for the help.
Huh I found this third party cable on ebay (D-terminal), unofficial but this company also seems like they made a scart cable too

EDIT: Actually it seems maybe Sony made an official D terminal cable for the Japanese market (same situation with Gamecube D Terminal cables), wonder if it would give a better picture?

D Terminal is also YPbPr, it will look identical to RCA component.
PS1 Disc-Based Game ID BIOS patch for MemCard Pro and SD2PSX automatic VMC switching.
Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
Ah okay nevermind then, plus I'd need a converter for D terminal anyway.

Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
I finished a round of Japan shopping. Got this official D-Terminal cable coming in a week. I want to compare video output quality with the official RCA Component. Crosstalk between Y-Pb-Pr inside single jacket would be measurable on an oscilloscope but test to see if said quality is 'humanely perceptibly' worse than RCA YPbPr. Then can deal with SCART-JP21 / VGA / BNC-RCA RGB differences but it's hard to have an even baseline for fair comparison.
RemoteJoyLite, that's cool as hell, thanks for bringing to my attention. People modding 1000 models for video out when there was a CFW solution this entire time! I went to the ancient past looking up websites that explain how to use it and ended up at somethingawful forum. It's certainly possible to send YCbCr or digital RGB over USB 2.0 with its 4 data channels.
I would also think the digital video out over USB to look a little better than analog YPbPr. Not a guarantee because above 480i the video data has to be compressed* to fit on USB 2.0. I say how hardware mods could deliver worse video quality than the native analog out but this isn't messing with the electromagnetic interference, heat dissipation or reverse engineering the VPU/GPU. Hard to screw up.

Hi, did you get around to this yet? Excited to see if theres any difference.NewSchoolBoxer wrote:I finished a round of Japan shopping. Got this official D-Terminal cable coming in a week. Re: PSP Capture: Component vs RemoteJoyLite
It's been a long time since I tried, so this might be incorrect: RemoteJoyLite gives you compression artifacts, like banding. It's sharper than component, but not by much. Plus there's the increased CPU load, which might negatively affect games in other ways. You could lower the transfer framerate to reduce CPU load, but that's obviously a negative effect by itself. Based on my memories, if I were to setup a PSP connected to my TV again I would use component video and use RemoteJoyLite just for wireless controls.
You said you have a capture card, so I assume scaling will look the same for both alternatives; most capture cards and RemoteJoyLite have terrible scaling options so I'm thinking using Magpie (https://github.com/Blinue/Magpie/) for both would be the best solution. Assuming you're playing and not capturing.
