Hey y'all,

I felt the need to make a new topic because I couldn't find anyone really talking about it. That being the best method of playing Dodonpachi SDJ, I looked into lots of options like Xenex, RGH XBOX360, etc but non of them seem viable. For those who've played I'd like to know your method of playing it because it seems extremely hard to do. I'd also like to use this to tell you all about a tweet Live Wire (the company porting CAVE to Switch, titles such as Espgaluda II) tweeted out awhile back "We wonder what to develop next" and a majority of the comments were either related to Ibara, Muchi Muchi Pork, or the previously mentioned Dodonpachi SDJ. If I had to guess the next CAVE port will be SDJ or Ibara this year for Nintendo Switch. They haven't said anything official though but they said they're considering all options and they liked my tweet mentioning the topic. Anyways,

Welcome to the forum. It might be best to use the Search feature, as there has been a lot of discussion about SDOJ in the years since it was first released. In short, SDOJ is kind of a sticky subject, being the rarest CAVE arcade game due to its relatively small original run. It's also currently licensed to exA-Arcadia for a second arcade run, further reducing the odds of the game being released to consoles again in the near future. The Xbox 360 port is probably all that will exist of this game outside of arcade markets or emulators for a long time to come.

Mont, the honest-to-goodness arcade rom is floating about in the wild, meaning you can now practice with savestates. The catch is that you need to adjust the blitter and cpu settings in mame to get accurate slowdown... or play without any slowdown!

Yeah I saw dis Electric Underground video. I wasn't able to find the ROM and I'm guessing this forum cannot provide it either. Thank you for sending the video but I was more asking how other people were playing it. Outta curiosity.

Yeah I saw in the comments of the video he mentioned the legit ROM is out there. Dayum gon havta go on an omega search. Also unrelated but what I think is funny is that Limited Run did a collection on the SDOJ OST and not the game. Truly unfortunate yo.

Limited Run doesn't develop anything, so there's no "game" for them to release until someone does a new port.

Yeah, we just gotta hope Live Wire comes in clutch. Also I found the Rom and a usable version of MAME to play it. I heard Xenex was a bit janky and had a bit of lag so choosing MAME was probably my best bet. Although the rom is a bit LQ it's perfectly playable and it's not the meme rom, pretty sick.

I bought a Japanese xbox 360 which aren't too expensive and bought the Limited Edition big box version when it was under $200. You can have the disc drive on the xbox 360 JTagged for pretty cheap and then just play backups of all the games if that's the way you want to go.

FYI: The Xbox 360 version is region free, you don't need a JP region 360 or a modded 360 to play it.

As long as you can get access to Japanese XBLA points, you can buy the XBLG version pretty easily too. So the game is still reasonably accessible if you have a 360.

I know of it but I don't have the time or equipment to hack my 360, only thing I've used it for in recent is halo LAN parties for Reach.
