Guardian Heroes vs Panzer Bandit

Post by KimagureMachibuse »

I once played Guardian Heroes on the Sega saturn and thought it was a really cool and fun game with an incredible soundtrack even if i could not understand the japanese text as much when it comes to the dialogue options for the alternate paths in the game.

however i would like to know of how people think of the PS1 game Panzer bandit that although is very similar is not actually much of a clone of Guardian Heroes as it was developed by Fill in Cafe who made mad stalker on the FM Towns the game that Guardian Heroes took influence of. personally i have yet to play it as i do not own a copy but would happily play it in an emulator some day however judging from gameplay videos and video reviews it seems to look like a really great game and one cool thing about the game is that it allows you to play as the boss characters in the single player mode as well as the multiplayer modes.

and as a bit of a extra discussion i would like to hear the thoughts of Advance Guardian Heroes on the Game Boy Advance as i have yet to play that game as well.

Never played Panzer Bandit.

Advance Guardian Heroes was dismissed or disparaged when it was released because it did not meet people's inflated or fantasy expectation of what a Guardian Heroes sequel should be.
I'd argue AGH is fantastic. I really enjoy it better than the original game. Control is simplified and the game has better pacing than the original in my opinion.
One of my favorite GBA games and one of the few games in recent decades that I've enjoyed playing through multiple times. Highly recommended.

All three games (Guardian Heroes, Panzer Bandit, Mad Stalker) as well as Code of Princess and Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds had involvement by Masaki Ukyo and Masatoshi Imaizumi, so they're all basically variations on a theme. Panzer Bandit particularly stood out to me, as it's super easy and fun to pull off lengthy combo chains.

Advance Guardian Heroes is its own thing though, and has quite a different style and game mechanic from its predecessor and is designed more around using a counter to deflect attacks. I absolutely second what Koa Zo says about the game, it's top notch and never really got the recognition it deserves.
