I just found it by random chance while looking up another NES game....looks like another really cool classic shmup that no one's ever heard of. :P

No North American release. It's not surprising that it isn't very popular with the NES crowd.

Looks almost like a Mr.Heli. I'm sure there's probably a way to get the game playable.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Can't say I've heard of it man.

Same with one platform shooter I knew called Xexyz on the nes. So far I don't know anyone who's heard of it. That was one very good and tough game.

Nintendo Power had a review of the game in a old issue, it took forever for me to find out it got cancelled. A shame because it looks like a fine shmup for the system. *-neo

Sweet! Well, I hadn't heard of the game before, so I downloaded a ROM to try it out. Quite excellent for an NES shmup. The challenge seems to be centered around level-design, which is a trait in shmups that isn't as common as it should be. Guess I have something to keep me occupied for the next few hours.

It's a shame that it wasn't released in the US. I'd love to have it in my collection.

funny
I'm playing it(and "Burai Fighter"...also recommended) now constantly for days on my Nintendo DS(via Movie Player).
It's easily one of the best shmups for famicom/NES....highly addicting.
Everyone should give it a try.
I wonder why it is so overlooked by shmuppers?

now if I only could get "Crisis Force" to work.....

I used to have that game. I gave it too my brother. I didn't like it very much. It's a pretty common find at video stores and garage sales and stuff.

i saw it in Nintendo Power one time, I dunno when. Sometime last year I spent an hour or so playing the ROM. The control setup is cool, but I didn't quite get comfortable with it, and then I forgot all about the game.

I already posted this link in another thread but I thought it would be nice to have all info concerning this in one place.

Here's a video of the first level:

It's a really nice game for an NES shooter. It was released in Japan and Europe.

If you wanna play an original copy in the US it's probably best to get one off one off the European Ebays and get a cheap NES and import-mod it yourself.

Shouldn't cost you more than $20 in total. :)

The Japanese cart is a bit pricey though.

Actually I just bought the Euro release. Now I need some sort of converter so I can play it on my AV Famicom. What exactly do I need and where can I get it?

I got this thing called "Family Adapter" off Ebay for like 5 Euros. It's kind of finicky but works. I don't really use it much though, cuz I'm afraid it might bend the pins in my precious AV Fami. ^^

Why not just get a PAL NES? A bare console shouldn't cost you much more than this adapter.

I have a PAL NES, but I really like my games in 60hz.

A 72 to 60 pin converter is needed. I found this:

I think Over Horizon is a nice game, though to me it has not aged as well as Gradius or others did. I found the option system in this game a bit gimicky, but it is still an enjoyable game. Some nice ideas in a few levels and the music is great for a NES game.

Really no bad game, but nothing special at all. At least in my opinion.

I LOVE XEXYZ!

That was one of those obscure games growing up that I was a fan of, & hardly anyone I knew had heard of it. Our local video store had it & I rented it a couple times w/ friends - they weren't thrilled with it, but I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the info about Over Horizon - I'm going to have to check that game out. And thanks for the info on nesreproductions.com -> I'm definitely going to have to see about getting a Recca cart!
