Back in the 4th quarter of 1997 into early January of 1998, Working Designs heavily promoted it's Playstation Raystorm shmup contest with the grand prize of $10,000 USD. I entered the contest with a VHS tape of my highest score and waited to see how I fared. My score was 24,000,000+ points on one credit with a 1CC.
A few months later in early 1998, I got a letter parcel package in the mail from Working Designs...it was a brand new Raystorm mouse pad which I use right next to me as I type this post. I did manage to place in PSX WD Raystorm contest and see my name posted up there. ^_~
Are there any other fellow shmupper who managed to place in this WD Raystorm shmup contest back in early 1998?
I used an Ascii Stick for PSX with variable auto-fire to submit for this WD Raystorm contest. It didn't say what kind of PSX game controller were or weren't allowed...I just used what was comfortable at the time. Auto-fire was very helpful with this PSX shmup game of Raystorm.

Did you enter the WD PSX Raystorm 1998 contest?

I entered thinking i had an awesome score but when i saw the finalist mine had been blown away. It sucked too because i remember how hard it was to get my crappy VCR to record it right and how many tries i went through to 1cc it on film.
I was a Raystorm fanatic back then though, that is before G-Darius

I know they had a Ray Crisis contest as well... but for some reason they never finished up on it?
Yes, Working Designs did have that 2nd PSX shmup contest with Ray Crisis...the grand prize was awarded. I sent out a SASE and was hoping to get a winners list of the Ray Crisis contest but never got one. Then one day by browsing on WD's website, there were the official results of the Ray Crisis contest. Unfortunately this time around, even though I entered, I did not place in the WD Ray Crisis contest high score list to win anything.
Yeah, that Working Designs produced a promotional Raystorm mouse pad is really something. One could buy it on their site as well for a mere $9.99 USD. ^_~
