Space Channel 5 help..
Ok, I realise this is very weak, but I can't beat the first boss in Space Channel 5. I'm fine all the way up to it, but the final section after it goes crazy has me stuck. I'm doing the moves right, and in time with eachother, but I can't find the starting point. Does anyone have a replay of that first boss?

Yeah, I've tried small delays, long ones - just can't get that one bit. I'm nearly perfect on the entire rest of the level. If anyone is able to make a quick replay of that one section, it would help me sleep at night

The game has a 100% replay built in.

So, just start that before the boss, and ABXY+Start right after if you don't want to see anything elseGameFAQs wrote:During the game, hold L + R then press Up, Left, A, Left, A, Down, Right, B, Right, B. The computer will take over Ulala and you will beat the game with 100% view rating.

I'd say while the music is important -- and it helps to tap your foot or whatever to keep the beat -- pay attention to the Morolian/Ulala signs that flash at the beginning of each command section. Count off if you must. The "repeat" parts are the same as the initial ones, so if the first "chu" is two seconds after the "bing" for the Morolian sign, then it'll be the same when its replaced with the Ulala one. Also, the final section of the boss when he has you with the tongue, just tap away as quickly as possible. You really should have a high enough rating to weather that part even if you miss.
I'm always surprised when people have a hard time with Space Channel 5, because I think it's the only game where I had to purposely do bad to see the other scenes.
Too bad a third game isn't likely.

Aha - thanks for that cheat. I just want to see it do it once, I can't pick the beat out at all in just that final section, rest of them weren't too hard to learn. I'd seen the step list on gamefaqs, but that wasn't very useful - start point for the sequence isn't there.

Got it - didn't enter the code, lucked and hit one note and found out the delay is REALLY SHORT.
Side note - does anyone think those pad adapters (ps2 -> dc) add enough lag that it would affect this game?

I just did that cpu control for space channel 5 part 2, I couldn't beat stage 4 so it was worth it to see the last stages and bosses I couldn't have done them myself far too hard. last few stages were a let down.
Anyone here ever beaten part 2? pretty intense 1970's colour schemes looks amazing in VGA.
Space Michael Jackson is the funniest thing I've ever seen, Hilarious dance moves from thriller choreographed into the game.

I agree, though I think I've warmed slightly to the finale. I don't like the "tragic event" that occurs, and the ending really seems somewhat like a watered down rehash of the original's. The first two levels of SC5p2 are fantastic and eclipse everything in the first game, but it sets the bar so high that the 4th level on comes across like such a letdown.Diabollokus wrote:I just did that cpu control for space channel 5 part 2, I couldn't beat stage 4 so it was worth it to see the last stages and bosses I couldn't have done them myself far too hard. last few stages were a let down.

bloodflowers: I didn't think a PS2-DC adapter would harm this game. I tried it and... I thought wrong.
It's possible--maybe--to clear, but I doubt it is possible to excel. Using an EMS Total Control Plus with a Dual Shock 2, the control felt muddy. Certainly the faster paced sections brought out the worst in the converter. I don't recommend it for this game.
(I have finished the game with 100% viewer rating in the US and JPN Dreamcast versions, but only with the stock DC pad.)

Beating SC5p2 was probably my greatest (most worked for) gaming achievement of the past 5 years. There were multiple points that had me stuck. I'd play and play and always game-over at the same sections. The game would piss me off then I'd put it away for awhile. Almost every time I went back to it I'd breeze right through the section that previously had me stuck. Eventually I'd thought I'd get no further and gave up for good.Benjamin wrote:I agree, though I think I've warmed slightly to the finale. Nearly a year later I purchased the North American Special Edition for a friend's PS2. And guess what? I played right through to the end in no time. (still challenging though).
This led me to believe the PS2 rev was easier. Or at least the controller was more responsive. But sure enough; once I had the chance to play my Dreamcast again, it didn't take me too many tries to beat that version either.
So the long and the short of that is: it is easy to get stuck into repeating your same mistakes (lack of rhythm). Leave the game for a while and come back to it with fresh ears. Watch Ulala's hips and feel the grove. I'd be swaying my shoulders, tapping my toes and bobbing my head on my most successful runs through the game. Definitely a brilliant game through and through (part 2 that is).
Now the ultimate United Game Artists challenge remains: beating Rez with Moralian.

Dancing to the game and keeping a beat is key. In your defense, the sequel's later levels do have some odd tempo changes with songs that aren't strict 4/4 as the original's soundtrack appears to be, making it more difficult to find a steady rhythm. The lyrics also often out of sync with the music track, making some button timings seem off, too, at least for the English version.Koa Zo wrote:So the long and the short of that is: it is easy to get stuck into repeating your same mistakes (lack of rhythm).
