Any performance/lag improvements using a PS5 to play PS4?
Something I've been thinking about. Has anyone tested to see if there is any lag reduction playing PS4 shmups on PS5? Could be something as simple as an improvement in the way the USB input works on PS5. Or maybe the added horsepower of the PS5 somehow improves things.
Re: Any performance/lag improvements using a PS5 to play PS4
I know that things that aren't shmups have seen various improvements. Unfortunately, almost everything on PS4 can also be found on Switch now; Ketsui is the only exception (that anyone cares about) that I can think of offhand. Are there any PS4 holdouts left?

But what does what does Switch have to do with it?

Kimagre Gaming (the guy who crowdfunded the Saturn Tribute lag tests) has been looking into this for a while now and there doesn't seem to be any difference when it's PS4 code running on PS5:

The exception is if the framerate is drastically improved in a game that didn't reach its target framerate on PS4. Tales of Arise, for example, is locked to 60fps on PS5 and has lower input latency as a result. But the Xbox Series version has 1 frame less latency than it. But we've also seen cases where the PS5 specific version has more latency than the PS4 version played on either PS4 or PS5...
I did recently pick up a PS5 myself and I can't say I've felt any difference in the shmups I've played (Mostly Shot Triggers stuff).

What are these responses? I'm just saying that there probably aren't that many PS4 players left, which unfortunately means that your question will get snubbed more easily. I'm surprised anyone's been really looking into this, but that's likely because right now noone cares about fighting games or "big games" on Switch.

PS4: 115.79 million units lifetimeDespatche wrote:What are these responses? You're not understanding what I'm saying. A lot of Japanese developers period are starting to move to the Switch. I imagine a lot of people have already sold their PS4s. This is especially the case for shmup developers and fans; there are very few PS4 exclusives right now.

Huh? The question asked was whether or not PS5 offers improvements for PS4 shmups. Nobody asked anything about the Switch or current market trends.

Which, again, is a difficult question to ask, because most people are just going to play all this stuff on Switch. That's all I said.

Q - "Hey, anyone tried that new sauce at Chik-fil-A? I wonder if it makes their classic sandwiches taste better?"

The only thing as bad as a nonsensical car analogy is a nonsensical food analogy.
I didn't answer it like that at all, by the way. I was just wondering how many people are actually still playing anything on PS4, as everyone seems to be losing their minds over everything that's on the Switch.

The OP's question has been answered, so I'm gonna go ahead and nip this one in the bud.
