Zero Gunner; still awesome, still an arcade exclusive

I find it hard to believe Zero Gunner has not been ported, especially recently with all the older shmups seemingly seeing remakes / re-releases. Or that it wasnt added to the Zero Gunner 2 disc on Dreamcast as a bonus.
Always loved this game and its unique control system / the way the ship moves in the environment. Gives me a lot of Tobe! Polystars vibes

I believe the code for both Zero Gunners was lost, and the ZG2 releases were reprogrammed.
Re: Zero Gunner; still awesome, still an arcade exclusive
I'd appreciate the post a lot more if it was an actual sincere post and not another plug for your youtube videos

I agree. There's absolutely nothing wrong with shilling your videos, especially when your niche fits (and I do see the amount of effort on the channel!), but disguising it as a non-shill thread is quite dishonorable.
All it takes is adding your channel name to the title. Do it in the future please.
On 'topic' , the enemies seem a bit hard to kill, but otherwise this seems fun and well balanced. Shame about the code...

Hilarious what offends people on this site. “Our genre is dying, nobody gives it any attention”…..
“Here’s some well made, well produced videos about games you like that I’ve been making for years to inform people about some gems I think are worth checking out…”
“I’m offended that you posted this without explaining that you make videos….shill”
Pure comedy.

I don't think anyone here was offended, and I think your correlation is bull.ATTRACTS wrote:Hilarious what offends people on this site. “Our genre is dying, nobody gives it any attention”…..

The genre "dying" is no excuse for bad posting conduct.
Making posts in bad faith deserves a proper response.
Despite this, I want you to note that neither spmbx nor I expressed any distaste at the content provided. It was purely directed at the title.
Indeed, I'll gladly praise vg esoterica man. For me, it was the Violent Storm review - that game deserves more love.
...but it won't stop me from pointing out a stinker when I see it.
To address your post specifically - have you considered that many people here, including myself, are actually interested in watching a series like what awbacon posts? Indeed, the numbers on his channel prove it. The only point against it was that it shouldn't be disguised - and frankly I'd say that it doesn't need to be.
TLDR awbacon's videos good. Clickbait bad.

If he made a single video about a shmup that he enjoyed and posted it, that would be ok....but because has a channel that has other videos, him not putting a blatant warning saying as much is somehow in bad taste? Truly the dumbest thing I've read on here in a few months.
"Hey guys, I made this cool one off video involving this genre we all like.."...GREAT WORK
"Hey guys, I made this video and failed to mention that I have other videos as part of a collection..."....YOU HAVE A CHANNEL. THIS IS A SHILL
That second to last paragraph is also hilarious. You call the guy a shill but then say you think he should actually shill HARDER because more people would be interested in his videos lol. To address your post in return, have you ever considered that he might just be trying to share a shmup video to shmup fans? And instead of jamming all of his other content on the forum, he's tastefully just keeping it simple?

He has a very active channel, and has done this many times before. This is not a one-off scenario, which cements it as actual view manipulation.Hey guys, I made this cool one off video involving this genre we all like.."...GREAT WORK

You're strawmanning extremely hard, however. You've turned a simple remark into something far too dramatic. Too disgusted to continue. Feel free to carry on the argument without me.
I don't think you understand the issue. Perhaps next time you should actually read. What makes the shill bad is not its existence, but the way it is presented. That second to last paragraph is also hilarious. Noone likes the first Zero Gunner. People should, but they don't.

Who cares if someone is providing a link to their Youtube video about a topic that is absolutely relevant to the interests of this forum? What's the problem? If you don't want to go to the dude's channel, then don't. Personally, I appreciate the link and wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't posted here.
As for Zero Gunner... I've always had a soft spot for this one from playing it quite a bit in my college (University of Memphis) arcade in the late '90s. Kind of inexplicable that this of all games was there, but it was!
I've also always been a bit bothered that it never got a port, especially with ZG2 being a pretty notable DC title, and then lots of Psikyo ports on the PS2 and now Switch. I suppose maybe it was just too hard to port to existing systems when it was new in 1997 (even Sega struggled with their high profile first party stuff to Saturn), and by the time more powerful systems like the DC came out they didn't bother going back. I had really hoped the Zerodiv releases would have corrected this - Zerodiv complaints be damned, I'd have been pretty pleased to finally get a port even if it came with a little lag.

It never got a port because it was an average game on expensive Sega Model2 boards requiring 25khz monitors no ordinary operator in his sanity wanted to try his luck with. An oddity which never had a chance to evade obscurity, not unlike Pilot Kids a year later.
And I don't think you've understood the complaints with the OP here at all, which is strange because they were quite well explained.
