First cocktail build using CRT need some help

Post by Edgecrusher »

I finished up most my build to the point I could turn everything on and see what it looked like.
My question is; do I need to make some kind of shielding around the crt tube to avoid interference with the picture? How do I do that?

When the tube is out of the cab the color looks fine but as you start shutting the top you can see the colors shift most noticeably the orange to green. I only assume there is something giving off some interference or a magnetic field inside the cab which is doing this. I didn't really think about it when I was putting everything together.
here's some pics of how I have it set up:

I have the same issue with my Midway cocktail. I believe mine at least is caused by the proximity of the coin mechanisms, when I open the coin door it improves quite a bit.

I did a little research and the little cheap speakers I pulled out of the set were shielded. The 5" speaker I put in the side of the cocktail is just a regular Infinity car door speaker connected to a small amp. I imagine that big magnet on the back of the speaker is the culprit. I read a couple instances where people had problems from unshielded speakers close to the tube. Metal can be used to block the lines of flux coming from the magnet. Honestly, I think my speaker is overkill for my cocktail and I may just wire the original speakers in and see what happens. I have quite a few things stashed in there though. A raspberry pi, a hdmi converter, an amp, the speaker, a din rail with fuse and termination blocks, led strips. I'll just eliminate what I can and see what happens.

Unfortunately, last time I was in there I was peeling the Pi off the side I had stuck with gorilla tape and inadvertently broke the power supply connector so I can't run it. I was so excited to play some games on this Sunday and then right as I get close I break something so dumb and can't. :(

Thanks for the reply Osirus
