In the original Twin Bee, I can manage to score more than 650,000 points before reaching level 4 ...
Honestly, just grab a speed-up or two (And they are easy to get), a double shot, and forget everything else, go for score. The extends are worthy

Yeah, it takes a while to get accustomed to bell-catching.
