Two styles of Duo RX pads, anybody know more about them?

These are two controllers I bought recently, the d-pads are different and it's not wear'n tear, they have been moulded like this.
Anybody noticed this before? The rounded one feels much better for fighters!

Was wondering if maybe one of the d-pads has been replaced. I've never owned one before this so I don't know which is more common.

The rounded one is probably from later manufacture. The PC-FX pad used the same rounded d-pad.

Ahaaaa, makes sense thanks. Well, I must say I found it a lot more comfortable than the sharp edged one when I was testing them with SFII. The rounded edges are reminiscent of a Saturn pad's feel. If I was to buy another i'd definitely get that one again.
