Yeah, I may have to break down and spend the cash. It seems worthwhile to support these sorts of compilations when they are done right, as seems to be the case here.

I find the shooters in this collection unplayable. The ports are beautiful, but the dpad is just too unresponsive for Varth, 1941, Forgotten Worlds... I can't get used to it. The analog stick worked a bit better, but not a lot better. I also wish that there was auto-fire. It's very difficult, in vertical orientation, to be tapping full-time at the top of the handheld while steering around haphazardly with your thumb at the botton of the handheld. At least the horizontal platformers seem to play fine.
I believe I'm going to give up on trying to play these shooters, and I'm going to hold off on getting the Gradius Collection because I'm worried that it will be unplayable for me as well.

There is auto-fire. When you play tate, set the firing to the analog nub, and turn rapid fire to on in the controller config. That way you don't have to put your hand on the other side of the unit. It does take some getting used to, but it's an easier metod than the one you're using. ;/

Yeah, Professor. Follow the button config me and Cecil have listed and I guarantee (imperfect PSP D pad aside), it works great. Obviously ya don't wanna be using the R/L trigger for fire, set movement to D pad and fire to the nub and you are good to go. I set fire to "down" (left) on analog nub to fire and "up" (right) on the nub to bomb/loop. But if you are still not happy (TATE aside), then yeah, I guess you might not be comfy playing Gradius collection either.

Thanks for this! That's one problem solved. The other problem (sluggish, awkward dpad) will probably be solved only by modifying the unit.
