War of Aero

Post by Jac2Mac »

Hey guys!

Has anyone ever heard of the game War of Aero? I played it several times in MAME and found it to be the hardest shooter ever created. In other words, it's very unfair to the point of absurdity and is very mean.

Thanks guys!

You really need to stop posting individual threads for every shooting game you happen to come across, that don't say anything other than "Hi! I played this game!"

Edit: Never mind, after having read your reply on the Parodius topic I am fairly sure you are just a wind-up merchant.

Yeah, please stop it. There`s nothing to say against interesting, new, and insightful topics, but please try to say something in your posts that others can add something to.

Are you talking about the original 1978 Taito arcade cabinet version of Space Invaders? That is retro shmupping at it's finest... ^_~

Although, a gaming session of Atari Games' Xevious arcade upright is more right up my alley. ^_~

Eps: "Wind-up merchant"? I don't understand the term...

Curious thing about War of Aero, in any case--it seems to be the only game that its company ever published. I have to wonder what that signifies...

Yep, sorry about that - 'WUM', as it's sometimes abbreviated on the Net, is mainly only used in British forums, as it's a bit of slang from this side of the pond. :D

Just include links and pictures next time, that'll calm their nerves (and mine  )

Anybody here notice the similarities between the game and Image Fight?

All I know is, this is the ONLY thing that Yang Chen ever produced. I can't even find non-game products produced by them! It does, admittedly, make me suspect as to what happened, and what they were...

Yes, almost exactly like Image Fight. Wonder if it's just a massive hack, like what Comad was known to do.

I haven't played either one, but I did notice that the games' vessels look suspiciously similar...

Maybe if someone charted DIFFERENCES between the two, besides the obvious enemy pattern/appearance shifts, we could figure this one out.

However, combine this with...lack of productivity...and perhaps the lack of playtesting (how DOES War of Aero manage to be difficult, exactly?), and it really does look like Yang Cheng Electronic was just a fly-by-night operation.

The only thing I found hard was trying to kill enemies that take multiple hits using a Saturn USB pad, so I used auto-fire instead.
If I used an arcade stick I could tap the buttons faster, but I’ve not modded my stick for PC use yet.

One thing I got from that link is it was actually developed by Allumer, a Japanese company responsible for (among other things) quite blatant R-type knockoff "Rezon". So, that's at least two Irem games they've cloned. Even the company name is somewhat similar in Japanese, "airemu" vs "arume". Hell, maybe it was even a bunch of ex-Irem staff working under pseudonyms.

I've only been able to find two other Allumer games. The first is Blandia, a fighting game that seems to draw quite a bit from Gladiator (well, Taito WAS involved with Rezon...). The other is Mad Shark, which looks like a cross between Sky Shark and Raiden. What do the rest of you know about these two titles?

I didn’t know about the secret at the beginning of stage 2 mentioned on that site, I had found the one further along in the same level though.

If anyone wants to see the first loop cleared, I made an inp for MAME available here.
It should work on any of the newest versions of MAME, if not I mention which version I used on the link above.
It’s not perfect and I had no interest in playing the second loop.
