what genre is MadCrasher?

Post by RoninBuddha »

mad crasher is one of the myriads of pre-NEOGEO SNK games... it's pretty fun, an isometric shooter/racer, with "vehicles" reminicent of Tron. You basically go thru tracks, avoiding obstaces by jumping, shooting/bumping of "cars" to kill them (for points)... and so on..

so, is it supposed to be a Shump? (isometric, ala Viewpoint,Zaxxon), a Racer etc? just wonderin.

when describing a game that you can guess few know about it might be nice to include a link like: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?let ... me_id=8483
It seems to have all of the ingredients of a racer, I guess you could compare it to Kingdom Grandprix: http://klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8326
Both are probably cross over racing shmups.
The are two games in one

SNK's Mad Crasher arcade game circa 1984 in the USA...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Ah yes, SNK's Mad Crasher arcade cabinet circa 1984 was distributed in the USA. I've played it a few times in 1984-1985. Mad Crasher reminds me of a similar arcade game called "Bump 'N' Jump" from Data East. I like the visual presentation of the "isometric" viewpoint that Mad Crasher is prensented in.

Some other early arcade games that had the isometric viewpoint were: Sega's 1982 Zaxxon, Sega's 1983 Super Zaxxon, Sega's 1982 Congo Bongo, the above mentioned SNK 1984 Mad Crasher, Sammy's 1992 Viewpoint. Desert Falcon on the Atari 7800 ProSystem console had an isometric viewpoint setup.
