Am I the only one that thinks this game is totally messed up? I mean when they made this game they must have been on crack or something. Flying syringes, monkey heads, chickens? And the first boss is a giant six legged cat in a ship suit and its got a pirate hat on lol
And then a giant lady trying to stomp on you?? thats when I though WTF IS GOING ON HERE?!?!?
Its like its mixing cute with space seriousness and mixes it together with random crap.
Are there any other crazy games like Parodius Da! out there?

As was mentioned, there are several other Parodius titles available...offhand I'd also mention The Game Paradise (aka Game Tengoku), it has a parody/spoof feel to it, though it's more "focused" on parodying video games specifically, rather than tossing in stuff from all over the place like Parodius, heh heh. There are others too, but I'll let others mention 'em...
Harmful Park is nowhere near as screwed up as Sexy Parodius. ^_-
Yeah, I would say that for the most part HP is a straight cute-em-up, while Parodius could aptly be described as a queer-em-up (though not in the way that cho aniki is a queer-em-up).

My personal favorite is Jikkyo Oshaberi...in terms of presentation it's perhaps the weakest, but gameplay-wise I think it's the strongest (finally, separate buttons for "missile" and "bell power!" Genius!). Most seem to prefer Sexy, though...
I've always called Jikkyo Oshaberi Paro "'Cameo' Parodius", for all the little nods to various games. Such as the Twinbee stage, or the Xexex stage, or the bosses in the boss rush, taken from various Konami games (that penguin with the bucket on it's head is just... weird). The presentation is typically awesome, but out of all of the Paro games, Jikkyo Oshaberi is also the easiest. (Especially the Super Fami version.)
Sexy has great presentation too, but it is more on the side of wacky. Sexy is quite possibly the most difficult of the Parodius games, too.
I played Parodius and thought it was too funny and cute for a shooter. Why couldn't Konami have in the middle of making the first Parodius arcade game changed it to be a serious Gradius sequel called Gradius 4 which is not the same as the one in Gradius 3/4 PS2 pack where the Vic Viper returns to planet Gradius to find it devastated by Gofer and Venom and the final boss would be hyper difficult and you would have only one life against Gofer and if you lost it would show a very dark ending where Gofer destroying planet Gradius forever!
The Parodius games are excellent. Aside from Gradius V, I think they all boast much better sound tracks than the other Gradius games. They are graphically great and I love all the parodies (especially the castlevania one).
And as far as challenge goes, they are rock hard. When rank gets cranked up, expect the game to go manic. Plus you get a variety of ships to choose from - each offering its own play style.
The only one I was not very happy with was Oshaberi. The beginning of the game is good. But my god the bosses towards the end are incredibly lame and not thought out (boss rush I'm talking to you).
