X-Men 3 discussion
Loads of spoilers, don't read if you want to see the movie:
Really surprised at how different a direction X3 took in comparison to its predecessors. Man, was I the only one who kept expecting Cyclops to come back? Sure he's been treated pretty bad in the movies, but only giving him like 5 minutes of angsty bullshit and then being vaporized? Big surprise.
When Phoenix and the Prof have their mental battle, I will say that that was the most intense moment out of all the three movies. You could hear the audience say a collective "Aww!" when Xavier was de-molecularized.
"Do you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!"
I still can't believe that got in there. How could they put that in there, since I thought production wrapped in December, but that youtube parody didn't come until a few months later?
That was just wild. I was very glad with how Jugs turned out.
It did feel rushed, and I was surprised at the lack of developing the characters. In a sense, it reminds me of Police Academy: The New Recruits, where a few memorable people from the original remain while there's some not-as-interesting filler for the MIA.
Really, I felt having Kitty in there was a bad move...what turned out as a joke cameo from the first movie has become a full-blown character that I honestly didn't give two shits about. Her only use was having Jugs say his now-infamous line.
X-Men 3 was such a fanboy's wet dream as far as having even more mutants this time around; Multiple Man, Psylocke, Arclight (yeah, I'd hit it), m'fin Angel, and yet again Jubilee -- but we saw all of them for barely anything through the movie. Multiple Man was easily one of the coolest bad mutants I've seen in the trilogy, and they end up using him as some lameass decoy. Even Psylocke was in there!
I was really hoping to see nearly all of the X-Men being used in the battle against the Brotherhood, instead there was 6 against 100...ah well.
Anyways, huzzah for Beast. That scene where he had his old uniform on cracked me up. I had doubts about Kelsey, but man...he stole the show, straight up. Very well-played.
This is an example of what happens when you try to put so much source material into a 2-hour movie; nonetheless, it was mindblowing -- and I don't mean it in a good way, or a bad way. I was still recovering from Jugs' line in the parking lot, that was like doing what Lucas didn't do (putting Star Wars kid in Episode 3).
I am disappointed, and I still think X2 is better, but I can't remember the last time a movie has shocked and surprised me so much.
And I still can't figure out if I really like it or not.
Oh yeah, Halle Berry is such a shitty actress.

Same here. Can't tell if I like it or not. I hated it when I walked out, but it's kind of grown on me. There were a lot of times where I thought "Oh hey...they threw that random thing in there to please fanboys". Not that it worked. I did like the fastball special though.
Methinks Halle Berry phoned in her damn lines.

As an avid and rabid X-Men fanboy i must say that it was 'meh' just the same as part 1 and 2. Not bad, not spectuaular, but bearable.
Beast looked SO stupid though. I really don't see the justification in not having Woverine's mask in the films if they are going to have corny looking characters like that.
Anyway, it could have been alot worse. At least it wasn't directed by Paul Anderson or Uwe Boll.
Really, if it weren't for Famke Jannsen i wouldn't even bother going to the theatre to see them. She was SO hot in this one, though.

Godzilla was an inside job
i saw this the other day, i liked it a lot. i know Bryan Singer didnt direct this one, and to me, it seemed like the most enjoyable of the trilogy. i have never really been into the comics, so i dont know how accurately it is portrayed, but i think they slipped a few more arnie style one liners into this one , like someone said earlier "im the juggernaut, bitch!!!". they skipped over a few of the x-men, who didnt really do much, but it felt like the end when xavier was killed, and magneto was "cured", but i still dont know how they managed to defeat that phoenix character. and who is famke janssen BTW?

You have to wonder who's idea it was for Famke to play a trannie on nip/tuck. Surely casting by a blind person?
I thought X3 tried to mesh too many plot ideas into one movie. They didn't leave any time for character development - sure I saw Colossus, but do I even know he's an artist or any of his background? Same with Kitty Pride - she can phase through walls but why should I care about the character?
The action sequences were very impressive though - my favorites being inside the house with Xavier taking on Phoenix, and Magneto throwing the cars off the road. Why didn't Colossus throw down with Juggernaut? Now that's a fight.......
I have mixed feeling about this movie just as everyone else seems to. It was entertaining, but didn't measure up to 2 in my opinion. I can't help to wonder how it would have been different if Brian Singer would have stayed on as director.....
Oh, and should I even mention all the changes they've made from the comic book storylines? Granted, you don't want a direct converstion, but boy, do they really take "poetic liscense" to a new degree.........Kitty and Colossus have a romance in the comic, the Dark Phoenix takes place mostly in space with lame characters called Starjammers, and Iceman and Angel are part of the founding 5 X-Men, so seeing them so young on screen doesn't sit right with me.

Don't just dodge bullets, dance around them.
I enjoyed the movie. I don't mind if they have the characters out of order and at different ages (Iceman, Rogue, etc). I just want their powers to be the way they are in the comics. The deleted scene from X2 with Jubilee playing with lightning in her hands was an example... she should have fireworks. I'm not familiar with Callisto, but apparently some fans say that she can't move that fast.
I'm the most disappointed with Psylocke getting such a bit part. I really expected more of her character, due to her popularity. Yes, I've read that she died in the comics fairly recently, but to just have her vaporized like that was a bad move. Didn't even get to really see her powers. No psychic knife, and she didn't seem to teleport as much as she appeared to just camoflauge herself against the wall. (Again, it's better to keep their powers accurate.)
I was pretty amazed with the deaths of several main characters. It's said that Wolverine will have his own movie real soon, so the next X-Men movie should get to focus on new characters, such as Gambit who seems to be very highly in-demand.
I have the feeling that Singer has more of a love for the characters than this new director Ratner. I think that Singer would have given more proper cameos of minor characters. Just a thought.
It looks like the medicine that "cures" mutants doesn't have a lasting effect, so probably all of those ex-mutants will soon have a metamorphosis as they did when they were adolescents.
Who knows... maybe the real Jean Gray may rematerialize, now that Phoenix is dead, and maybe she might resurrect all those that Phoenix had obliterated on Alcatraz and elsewhere.

Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.
I didn't like it much. There was way too much crammed in, and more than lack of character development it lacked any sort of direction. Everything seemed ad hoc improvised and loosely connected, there's this, and that, and a little of yonder furball and and, but wait there's also. I never read the comics, and to me this one felt like they were merely using the newly-introduced mutants for variety and convenience. The first films were one long tease where nothing is ever decided in the main battle and this upped the ante in that regard big time. Instead of letting what they have play out they open up a deluge of new variables, motivations and drama, and even power relations completely at odds. And then they have a war where they concede it wouldn't amount to anything to have all mutants use their powers so everyone waits their turn? Phoenix is the prime example of all of this, her existence renders all other points moot and the film only continues because she happens to not notice that Magneto is playing her like a fiddle. Sudden case of stupid?
All drama really fell apart in this one. Its so indecisive that even the decisions seem irrelevant. Nothing ever changes the plodding pace. Not even Cyclops' or Xavier's death. Endless parade of heroic speeches, fear and uncertainty only setups for yet another stand in the face of adversity. And the film takes itself so seriously. The humour doesn't defuse that one bit, the film loves its drama and means it too. Very bland, and annoying in its conformism to cliche.
To top it off, there's ineffective one-liners everywhere. And horribly stupid dialogue. How seriously am I supposed to take a war where people have the leisure to talk trash, pat each others backs, exchange loving embraces in a hail of bullets etc.. There's no way to make it any more clear that nothing's gonna happen to any of the good guys and you're just milking the moment for show. The film doesn't seriously follow through with any of its dramatic potential, it avoids everything.
Drama? Way off the mark, I didn't give a rats ass. Xmen 3 was like watching a kid playing with his LEGO or PLAYMOBILE, only on a bigger scale.

After all the credits, we had this one girl in the row in front of us yell, "Yeah! All you bitches that left the theater early MISSED THAT!!!"

"This is not an alien life form! He is an experimental government aircraft!"

X-Men 3: Great action and fan service, week plot and horrible utilization of characters and excelent plot lines.
And why didn't they just use marrow in the bone dude vs way overused because he sells wolverine sceen?
** stars out of *****, mainly because of good use of Magneto and Beast, and the excelent portrayal by both Ian McKellen and Kelsey Grammer, and the fact that i'm gay for Patrick Stewart.

Saw it myself on tuesday, it was okay, special effects top notch, magnetos bridge moving service was taling it too far, didn't see it coming. Juggernaut was terrible, why vinnie jones? Kane marko is supposedly professor X's step brother in the comics? just didn't suit the role for me.
Hugh Jackman gave the best character rendition imho. Yeah due to this thread forced m8s to watch credits to see extra scene, had to explain that it was that vegetable guy from start.
The colours just feel wrong in the x men films.
