Shikigami no Shiro II translation [work in progress]

Post by Minzoku »

I guess this is my apology thread for the other one I started  but just out of an overwhelming curiosity, I've started translating the story for SNS2.

http://www.sgppresents.com/gallery/sns2

I figure it'll be easier to just throw everything into an image gallery than to in-line post them all here. It's going to be a slow job, though, because I suck :P

Comments and corrections appreciated :)

Hmm, this should be interesting for me to watch unfold, since I have a Japanese copy of SNS2 on its way to me now...best of luck. :)

Wow. He sure looks forward to it with a vengeance.

Looking great so far, Minzoku! If I get a VGA box (or the PC version?), I'll join in to help! Maybe I could even track down the XS Games version myself, and transcribe their version of the story for comparison purposes.

Edit: I'm a doofus. I wouldn't need a VGA box, if you're able to take screen shots like that! If you would want to post untranslated screens up, I (and others?) could take a stab at distributing the translation load. I'll work on translations for any character up until the third level boss, because that's only as far as I've gotten.

lol, at first I thought you were going to attempt to translate the English hack job XS did.

How do you know Japanese? I know a guy that took Japanese classes for a few years and he still has a rough time reading the kanji.

I added Kohtaro's initial encounter with Arala Cran... it's... um.... uh.

I'm using grabs from the SNS2 Appreciate DVD Story mode. That's what took a lot of the time to start, grabbing the video and finding each section of dialogue. It's taking up a huge amount of space on my drive at the moment :P I've only gotten through Arala Cran so far.

Having to go to work doesn't help, either :?

Well, it's mostly to see whether they did actually make the whole thing up or not, or if they kind of rushed through it and made up parts that were taking too long to figure out.

I took three unproductive years of Japanese at college, with the result I haven't retained a bit of it :( except minimal vocabulary and the basic hiragana/katakana/numbers. I also have a Random House dictionary, a kanji dictionary, and Kiken :) [also with dictionary]

Kiken did the "I look forward to it!!" panel ;)

The biggest problem isn't necessarily translating the concepts, but stringing the concepts together into a coherent picture... like, if I get "frog evil jump store vindictively" as a literal complete thought, how do I turn that into something not Engrishy? :(

I honestly thing more games should be fan-translated as the fans tend to take more care in doing so.

Arigato. :D

Oh! But, wouldn't you simply have to--oh--ohh. I don't have the Appreciate DVD, either. 8)

I'll still see if I can possibly help.

::reads::

No way! I had no idea that they would say things like that. Now I'm quite interested to find out how XS Games "interpreted" it, but of course, I'm more interested in finding out which words are exchanged after Kuga defeats Cran. :D

I'm going to laugh when you all discover the XS translation wasn't as totally off base as everyone assumed ;)

I've now added through the intro to Stage 2, though it was a lot of trouble to work out. I likely won't post another update until I get more than, "Hey, here's another few lines translated done!"... probably I'll try to finish Kohtaro's story and post that all at once.

Boy, it's a lot more dialogue than I counted on :?

Indeed, it's very much appreciated! :D

Translating is time-consuming and tiring though; I'm sure that you'll proceed with your project at a healthy pace... I thought that I was going to puke this one time, when I was trying to translate some... See, I even forget what it was, now. Anyway, I wanted so badly to keep going, but I got to the point where I could not focus on anything for another minute.

So, thank you so much, but of course I hope that you don't feel under any pressure from us. I for one wouldn't mind receiving little bits every week or so.

I do need a slight break, though, since taxes are looming... :(

Hi !

Thank you very much for the great job.

Can you do me a favour ?

Can you translate the story of Shikigami No Shiro 1 ?

The german version (Mobile Light Force 2) hosts an extreme bloody-gory story ! (a woman was tortured 20 (sic !!) hours to death...the murder skinned her to death 20 hours...victim was still alive !!!!)

I am wondering if the japanese story offers also such a wild story.

Greetings
RFK

Thanks! :)

Unfortunately, I don't know if I can translate SNS1, as I don't have a DVD for it :( [I'm not very good at the game to play straight through it myself.] I'll see what I can do after I finish SNS2, however.

After years and years of procrastination and fighting Shift-JIS (long story), I've finished Kohtaro's story... I warn you, it's a bit crap, though :? Still, the gist of it's there.
