I finaly ordered US version of Castle Shikigami 2

Post by Danny »

I finaly ordered US version of Castle Shikigami 2... Hurray!

I hear that the game it's perfect in every way apart from the poor translation which was bound to happen since I hear that this game has a fairly profound japanese plot which XS Games has trouble translating due to every single chaarcter and two player combonation in the game has there own plot line for each stage.

I really can not wait to get this game and start hitting those high score tabels. (Are there any on these forums?)

Anyway just wondered if there were any other fans of the series here and if anyone else owns the US version. I herd the gameplay is fine but the script sucks so I'm also wondering has there ever been a translation of the Japanse script?

I always thought about getting Castle Shikigami 2, but the Japanese (Asian) version is only $15 at play-asia. Glad I got that one instead...

I own the US version, everything is good but the voices and the manual. Luckly I can shut off the voices when playing. ;)

why does it feel like I'm the only one that loves the horrible voice acting? I'll take comedy gold like that any day over a version which a language I can't read. If I care that deeply about the storyline I'll just go read a FAQ.

"Never forget the duty of an American! I pay taxes, work, and I ALWAYS vote. I fight for freedom of this country! This fight is for Japan!"

Yea this game has the best translation work ever. There's some part that goes like "I'm green. I'm seventeen." Really weird shit, I don't know how the voice actors didn't look at the script and wonder what sort of animal wrote this stuff down.

What's different from the GC version? I have the GC version and it's pretty nice.

I've played both. The GC version looks a lot better than the PS2 version. Of course, there are also XBOX, DC, and PC versions, but I don't think they are any improvement on the GC one. The XBOX has special versions of Shiki I and the DC has a limited ed. version of Shiki II. But the latter has no new game content, as far as I know.

Did you get a special figure with your GC version? I got a cat that I keep on top of my tate'd tv.

I love this game. It has a firm place in my top ten shmup list. I'm really hoping that Shiki III is as good, if not better.

I just picked it up used at Gamestop a couple weeks ago. Only $7.99, and mint condition.

Haven't had the chance to play it yet... :(

Ooooh, I love this game. I bought this after I bought Ikaruga and Gradius 5, when i was looking for something else, and I've played this more than either of the two. There's so many characters to play as, you'll never get bored.

Very pretty patterns, too! If you don't want to hear the cringe-worthy voices, you can just turn them off, so it's no big deal at all; however, I'll echo others' statements and say that you have to hear them at least once. Crazy to say, but it is refreshing, in this day of professional translations, to get such a Engrish filled translation - with real voices!

YES. I have the cat figurine, and I love it. I don't usually collect figurines as they cost an arm and a leg, but this one reminded me of a small cat figurine my late grandmother gave me, so it holds a special place with me. Both of them.

I like the GC version over the PC and DC versions, but I think that's mostly because the GC version has Wait on/off unlike the DC version.

The DC version fed through a VGA box and on a tate'd monitor is also very nice. I'm using a composite tv so I'm willing to say that (since the DC upscales automatically) the Shikigami for it looks better.

This game is the (only) reason I bought a Gamecube in the first place. A year later I haven't purchased a single game for it aside from Shiki; some say I'm missing out, but I say quality over quantity.

Yeah, at this point Shiki II is the only game I play on the GC. I have some others like Ikaruga and Star Soldier, which I play almost never.

I can't even remember the last time I played my GameCube. Might have been around 6 months ago when I sold my copy of Ikaruga (because I got the superior Dreamcast version at that point). Now all I have left are Skies of Arcadia and Tales of Symphonia, and I don't even play RPGs anymore. Sometimes I forget I even have a GameCube.

Am I the only person here who prefers the original Shikigami no shiro to Shiki II? I like the atmosphere and demonic enemy designs a lot more.

That depends. Everyone just uses Kotoro in Shiki 2.

I have the US PS2 release, I like the bizarre translation quite a bit. Mostly I play Hyuga, sometimes I try Roger. Also, I set Wait Off, since wait + grazing = erratic speed changes that are too complicated for me. Then again, I haven't been past 3-2, maybe Wait Off becomes unmanageable later. Oh, and I'd be much happier if they ditched bombs and dropped the 3-life limit, but I'm weird that way.

Heh, I thought I was the only one. Once in a great while I'll play as somebody else, but I usually just play as Ko so I can focus strictly on bullet dodging/scraping/eating.

I adore Castle Shikigami II. The soundtrack is fantastic, the bullet patterns are eye-catching, and the bullet-scraping system is addicting. I really don't mind the horrible voice acting. I mean, there's no denying it's the worst translation job in recent history, but who plays a shmup for the dialogue?

I think you get a bomb at every extend regardless, I forget, it's probably in the ST. I just don't like bombs, but that's a whine/rant/etc. for another time. Extends were just frustrating for me the last time I played, since I'd get to 1.1M w/o dying and then lose all my lives right away. Granted, this problem wouldn't be there if I just used the stupid bombs. I make the game a little harder for myself, so I try not to complain.

Does the Asian version support progressive scan as the Japanese version? :o

I'm a victim of picking him all the time as well. It's like a console version of a touhou shooter. It's great.

I like Shiki I well enough that I sold my MLF2 to get a Japanese version with tate. Great atmosphere/sound and very challenging. Still, I don't think of it as a classic, like Shiki II. Level 2 of Shiki II is so gorgeous. Level 3 is a nice challenge. Level 4, well, I'm still working to get through the 4-2 boss. Even Level 1 has some nice scoring opportunities.

On the back of my box is a tag that says プログレッシブ (525p)... So this will work with a homemade VGA cable?

And at first I also used Kohtaro a lot, but I've switched in favour of Niigi G.B.

Still a Kohtaro spammer in the original Shiki though!

Funny, I thought Kim was the most popular character to use. He's certainly the easiest to clear the game with. Plus the guy uses spectral swords. I can't think of anything cooler than that.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
