Beep.

I'm australian, but I'm currently in New Zealand with a bunch of mates. So.. my collection is hibernating while I'm playing theirs. They're more into horizontal games like Gradius where I'm more of a vertical player.

When I return home in a few months I'll post my collection. But this long hiatus from my collection is going to degrade my skill.. I've been playing a PS2 loli shooter and a couple of other games unrelated to my collection.

Brisbane shmupper here.

I'm too poor to buy PCBs, so console shmups are my thing. Most recent purchases were all the Cave PS2 shmups, Homura, etc.

Doesn't seem to be many around here who are into it. I'd love to host a local shmupmeet, but I'm fairly confident it would consist of about 3 people tops, and all of them people I see weekly anyway via my work and/or contracts.

From Melbourne here... I've got the 4 PS2 Cave shmups (Mushi should be in the mail), Gradius V, Gradius Portable, Ikaruga (DC), and Under Defeat... at least, that's the ones that come to mind right now (should be most of them, anyway). Unfortunately school work is heavier than I was expecting this year... I really wish I had more time to play. Oh well.

I'm from Australia too - NSW actually. I don't post much but like to lurk.

I have more shooters than I can name. Probably have too many games. :)
All the best

Hmm, where's that old topic where someone here had set up one of those things where people from this forum could "register" at it and leave a mark at the place where they live? I think it was in Off-Topic someplace...probably should have been stickied.

(EDIT: And just so no confusion arises, no, I'm not from Australia. Sorry for bursting in. ;))

I'm a Victorian. I'm more of a console fella myself. Most of my shmups are on the Saturn, DC and PS2. The latest I have bought is Under Defeat and I will probably get the 4 Cave titles in the next couple of months.

Can anyone suggest a site I can grab them from?

www.play-asia.com is the best out there :P Everyone has their preferences but... play-asia is the tightest operation with the best website, and probably just the biggest too, with the highest stock levels I would imagine.

Oh, I'm ausssie too, btw.

Seconded for Play-Asia. Lik-Sang is OK, but they never seem to have the stuff in stock that I want. Play-Asia always has stuff in stock, and is fast.

Play-asia isn't very fast for me (2 weeks-3 weeks) but I recommend it. I went to order the Treasure Box from yesasia and it was "shipped" for almost half a month and then they said they didn't have any stock.

Play-Asia usually get stuff to me within 7 days. Street Fighter III 3S arrived in 5! (ordered Monday, had it Friday in time for the weekend).

I order Mushihime Sama from Lik-Sang, and they took a week to tell me it was out of stock and cancelled the purchase. I ordered it from Play-Asia, and had it at my door 7 days later. From there on I bought all my PS2 games from there (and Under Defeat for DC too - which reminds me, I need to get off my arse ad get Radiligy!).

I've bought from Playasia in the past and they are clearly a quality organisation but I am after the Pal versions that 505 Game Street released.

Brisbane here.

I've got all the Cave games except Ibara. Yet I still don't have a modded console - can't afford one. By the time I get one they'll probably be playable via emulation. I was just scared they would disappear like Radiant Silvergun did.

I've got Ikaruga, Gradius V, and every cheap shooter I could find for PS2.

Haven't been in the mood for playing shmups lately though - Civilization IV is consuming most of my spare time. I seem to have the most fun just playing Mame games like Dodonpachi and Progear, so I don't know why I wasted money importing in the first place. Sites like this kind of sucker you into a collecting frenzy.

If and when Raiden II becomes available through Mame, I will be very content. It is the only shooter I can find in the CBD, and the only shooter I pump coins into when given the chance.

Nice to see lots of Brisbaners here. Usually the arcade scene is always big down south, and I'm all on my own up here. :)

Once I clean out my games room (which is currently full of DDR dance pads) I think I'll have to organise a meet. Fire up the MAME cab, and slap the Dreamcast and PS2 in two vertical cabs as well and go nuts. :)

Hi,

I'm in Adelaide. I have an Astro City cab fitted with a PS2. Occasionally I fire up MAME but not often.

Cheers,
Matt

I've been lurking around for a few months, Aussie here too. I'd say I'm from brisbane but I'm really in pine rivers. Brisbane is a 5 minute drive away.

Always appreciated shooters but modding the ps2 really got me into it as I find the mass bullets/small hitbox combo yields the most satisfying game for me. Collections' pretty ordinary, got a few on the dreamcast and most of the ps2 ones, just need the Fren-ze demo on the UKOPSM2 demo disc (anyone want to trade theirs? heh) and a few retro compilations like tecmo hit parade (at around 10 bucks per game on that disc I won't be getting that one too soon) and activision anthology, I play MAME very occasionally as well. I'm sure things'll be more exciting when I finally get that 4 in one action replay for the Saturn.

Aside from the raiden 2 machine in the city there's a multi game machine in the Chermside replay with 20 or so shooters, I played UFO robot dangar last time. I've heard the term MAME cabinet thrown around a bit maybe that's what this thing is(?). There was for a time, a raiden DX machine in that replay, no idea where it is now.

I bully my mates into playing shooters when they come around, and I actually have one friend who really gets into them, we take turns at the cave games on Arrange and I reckon it helps a bit when there's someone around to do better then ;p

That's about it really, just wanted to say hi after reading the board for a while now, this thread seemed appropriate.

I'm from VIC and I play, but I can't say I'm much of a collector - most stuff I play are on emulators anyway.

I do go to the arcades in the city and Boxhill a lot, but mostly for 3rd Strike. I do throw in coin now and then for Strikers 1945 Plus, but its just subpar compared to the others in the series. If the managers actually give games like Mushihime-sama or any new shmups a chance, I'd be all over it.

Favourite game right now would be Darius Gaiden, which I've been putting a lot of time into lately. Neon Light Illusion H still destroys me with those flurry of bullets for its first half :/

I don't have it. I've never played it but would love to see what all the fuss is about. I don't think I'll ever buy it though, far too exspensive! My missus would kill me....or hold back sex. Either way I can't see me ever owning it.

Nah that's not me, just being pedantic about the location. I drive past that welcome to brisbane sign regularly and it always seems a bit odd given the short distance from it to my house heh.

Still haven't played it and I still can't play imports on the saturn, I'll get around to it one day. I have Ikaruga though and can't see how it's the best shooter ever like I've seen a lot of people and magazines say. It's good for sure but I can think of a bunch of other shooters I enjoy more. Ones without environmental hazards.
