PVM 14L5 picture dissapeared

Post by robroqs »

Hi everyone I am new at this.

First of all I hope that this is being posted in the right place.

I purchased 3 PVM 14L5's and one 20M2U I bought them through an auction and wanted to make sure they functioned correctly so I bought a DVI to RGB 5 cable so I could test them with my PC. The picture on the first PVM 14L5 came out sharp but when I tested the second one I had no picture so I went on to the third one And It came out sharp, so then I tried to copy the settings from the first to the second and after turning the first one off and back on again I lost the first ones picture. So then I tried to copy the settings from the third one (as if I didn't learn my lesson the first time) and the same situation happened. that's when I decided to read up a on these monitors and found that they are supposed to work with 15KHZ. What I was wondering is did I kill these monitors hooking them up to my pc from DVI to RGB and sync even though 2 of them worked in the beginning? If not what would be the cheapest but still good quality recommendations on what game console and software to use to get the picture back? Or should I be able to do this with my PC.

Is there a way to post pictures here?

Ps never touched the 20M2U yet.

Thank you,
Robert

Wow, you really jumped in with both feet huh... maybe people are hesitant because you seem to have bought four monitors on a whim.

To answer your question, more info is needed: What exactly do you mean by "copied the settings"?
The 14L5 supports resolutions up to 720p in RGBS format (not RGBHV!). How exactly did you hook up the DVI to RGBHV cables? My guess is that you connected H-sync to external sync in and V sync to external sync out which is okay for a quick test, but definitely not the prefered method.
If you did it like I assumed above, you should get a picture by setting your PC to a resolution of 720p and configuring the monitor to a component signal, RGB color space and external sync (this is important). The monitor does NOT auto-detect, which signal should be displayed, you have to manually configure your input source.

If you want to test your 20M2U, I suggest getting any video source with the yellow composite output and buying a cheap RCA to BNC adapter. You can also use this signal on your 14L5s, but again, you'd have to configure which video input you want to use.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for responding,

What I mean by I copied the settings was the status when you first push menu on the monitor.

I hooked up the DVI end of the DVI to RGB cable straight to my computer and the other end to the RGB external and Sync in and no cable to sync out. there are 5 BNC cables 3 going to RGB in the perspective order and the (black only) to the in sync external of my monitor and it actually showed my desktop on my computer for quite some time.

I have now changed my desktop monitor to 720P and I am still getting the same results a blank screen all though I can still use all menu functions.

When I go into the monitor in menu / user config I see settings 1125/60I sys 1080 but it is in blue and I don't know how to change that or if I even need to.

Last thing is can I post pictures of the cables and back of the computer and back of the monitor ETC: so you can see what I am talking about?

Thank you,
Robert

Okay, now try to attach the last BNC cable to the output of the external sync connection and see if you can get a picture.
As an explanation: You are most likely missing the vertical sync information of your signal. Your PC is outputting an RGBHV signal, so Red, Green, Blue, horizontal and vertical sync. The monitor expects an RGBS signal, so RGB plus combined sync. This is usually done by combining the sync signals with something like an Extron RGB interface, but for a quick (!) test it should be sufficient to briefly combine the signals by using both, the input and output as an input.

These settings are not important for your current resolution, you can leave them as is.
