one game i thought was never going to see the light of day, and one that us refusers-to-mod-our-PS2s will make us smile.

It is not that surprising...considering the older Raiden titles also got the US releases.

I beat the PC versions last nite, it was so utterly and extremely short..
I was very disappointed.
hardly worth a console release when the entire game is only maybe 10 minutes long.

Maybe you didn't play it right.
Ikaruga is a short game but I still can't get past the first chapter without screwing up.

Any shooter released in the US is good news in my opinion. I'll pick it up! Now, if only we could get Mushi...

I already have a JP version but I might pick one up if it's around Castle Shikigami 2 kind of price range. Speaking of which, I've NEVER seen Castle Shikigami 2 in any of my local stores... Then again, the Asian version of Shiki II only cost me $15.

He has a point...you can practically unlock everything in one quick run just by setting it to beginner mode where no bullets come out and you practice for score...you basically clear everything and Free Play, as well as all the Galleries and extras get unlocked.

The only reason I still play this is because it's good practice for Double Play where you control 2 ships.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

You just described about 75% of the genre out there. A lot of shmups can be blown through on the first try when you put everything at the easiest setting. Why hold it against this one?

The credits max out at 6 in the PC version.

Holy crap. I've had Raiden III on my Tracked Games list at gamespot for months, and now this. I didn't think it'd ever actually be released over here... awesome.

To be honest, I'm more interested in seeing Red Star revived than Raiden 3. It was apparently quite close to release when Acclaim went under (close enough that a kiosk demo for Xbox had shown up) and seemed like an interesting borderliner.

Word. I played it for the first time in an arcade in Japan and didn't think it was anything to write home about. Not total poo, but not woohoo.

Any shooter comming to the US is good for me. ;)

But looks who's publishing it, it's no other than XS Games!

Lets bug them so they will remember not to screw around any games (MLF 2 anyone?)!

And the inevitable...
...will it have tate?

I'll side with others on this one, Raiden III is really nothing specieal. It is mediocre enough that I'm not sure its US release is even a good thing.

I probably should have sold my copy before this US version was announced.

Why wouldn't it have 3D? Nobody sued them over Castle Shikigami 2 or anything. The only question left is whether it'll actually have coherent English.

^ 3D? I'm confused, I thought he was asking about orientation (TATE). And if Castle Shikigami 2 is anything of an indication, then yes, it will have TATE. It seems XS Games learned from their butchering mistakes when they release Castle Shikigami 2 last year.

i'm sorry raiden 3 didn't have 7646 bullets that go the speed of snails

i don't think it's the best game eva~~ or a very good one but it's nice to see a game where the bullets are fast

as an aside, there's no dialogue in raiden 3 for XS games to murder, give them that amount of credit

According to most, they fixed up almost everything they messed up in MLF2 with "Castle Shikigami 2," most notably including tate mode, so as long as they don't take a step backwards from here one would think their next release would be at least as competent.

Fantastic news. I don't care if it's a mediocre shmup by most reviews...I've enjoyed worse, I'm sure.

Raiden III coming soon for U.S. PS2 console from XS Games

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

That is indeed refreshing news that XS Games will be releasing Raiden III for the U.S. PS2 console with a budget price -- could that mean it'll go for a mere $9.99 USD (like Castle Shikigami 2 did)?

I sure hope XS Games leaves the TATE mode option selectable for Raiden III USA PS2 release. I'm sure they learned their Tate lesson with Castle Shikigami 2 PS2 game release.

I wonder what other USA console shmup releases are slated in the nearby future?...
