Best arcade stick for Switch and PC on a budget?

Post by SPM »

I have an itch for an arcade stick which haven't touched in 2 decades, but don't know if I'll use it much... so was considering something around 50 bucks.

I play mostly on Switch, and sometimes on PC... Which one would you recommend?

Are the Mayflash F101 and the Hori Mini good options to start with? I know they're probably rubbish compared to 100+ bucks sticks but let's keep it cheap

Another one to consider in that class would be the PXN Arcade Fightstick.

Between the two that you listed, definitely the Mayflash. However, you should go with the F300 over the F101. It is a bit nicer and still only $50 on Amazon at the moment. Both can be upgraded with Sanwa parts later on. The Hori mini is a joke. I wish there was a nice miniature arcade stick, but there's not. Hori Real Arcade Plus sticks are pretty sweet right out of the box, but they are more than $50 new. I see people get great deals sometimes though...

Will the Switch work with generic PC USB controllers? The PS3 could use every USB joypad that I tried.

If I were buying a stick for Switch and PC only, it would definitely be the 8Bitdo stick, which is made to be super compatible with real arcade part swaps and can be used over BT, 2.4GHz, or with a cable. It also supports custom button mappings. It costs a bit more, but well worth it for a superior product in build and operation.

What's the polling rate? Your PC will support 1000hz. You want the best performance you can get.

I think you should get a proper 1000hz stick for your PC and use an adapter to connect it to the Switch. The Switch is already a laggy, so it won't matter.

Notice: I have a Switch and I like it very much. I play it plenty. This isn't politics or console wars. Just stating the facts. Switch controller response isn't great. It is what it is.

Thanks for the answers! I've checked them out and I think I'll go with the 8bitdo arcade stick. It's 76€, more than what I wanted to spend (twice the price of the Hori Mini), may be a bit worse than the Mayflash and don't love the looks of it that much BUT it's the only wireless arcade stick I've seen, and that alone increases the chances of me playing it more often, which is the main thing

It'll be better than the MayFlash, even just out of the box. 8Bitdo is good stuff. You can later install Sanwa or Seimitsu parts, which will make it as good as any fancy custom stick.
