Sega Genesis RGB bypass question.. (still use CXA1145?)

Post by Jinx »

Hi guys, new here and signed up as you seem to have an informative hardware community.

Anyways basically what i'm trying to figure out is, can a person use an RGB bypass amp (like a voultar) from the VDP then feed that signal back into the CXA1145 with hopes
of keeping the composite video on the main a/v plug on the back?

My understanding is the jailbars and such come from some bad routing on the mainboard, so if i sever the contacts right outside the VDP to the mainboard, and take those signals into the voultar i get a cleaner signal.?

I ask , as i've already bought a lot of the voultar boards and peices to make them, but after my first mod, i realized the original a/v port gets basically disabled as the CXA1145 gets cut out of the chain. I dont know enough about the signal expected on the r/g/b/ input of that chip. I am using a genesis 2 port for the output of the voultar RGB, but i wondered if i could somehow run a 2nd set of wires from voultar board to the input of the CXA (i could lift those input legs so they aren't feedback into the mainboard.

I know probably a dumb question but figured i'd ask. Just dont want to have to rebuy a completely different rgb bypass board/chips etc..
