N64RGB Issues

Post by Thamiel »

Hey guys, just installed Tim's 2.0 kit flashed with Bortis firmware and I'm getting a lot of weird interference. Checked all my soldering and it's fine, using a sync on luma scart cable. Any ideas?

Any pics of the install? Sometimes you can get high frequency noise like this if your digital lines (i.e the wires from the mainboard to the N64RGB) are too close to the AV out.

It's not reassembled yet, I'm wondering if getting everything in place on top of the RF shield/heatsink might actually solve this.

EDIT: Just moved all the wires away from each other, no difference. Attached a couple pics.

Rewired the whole thing, realised I had Red and Blue switched around on the output so took the opportunity to shorten some wires, do a cleaner install and try csync through a SNES cable.

Basically identical result.

If anyone reads this in the future, the deblur feature is amazing. I'm blown away.

Have you tried applying IPS/APS patches with an everdrive to remove the software side dithering/anti aliasing?

Glad you figured it out! I absolutely love the deblur feature too, but I really don't enjoy installing this mod at all the way it's instructed. A flex cable would've been a great alternative to the provided stranded ribbon cable. I usually end up just using solid core wire and keeping them as short as possible instead.

Nah, watched some videos of the result and it's just way too much dithering for me. Still, might as well give it a go in person.

Yeah, the instructions are a little odd. I probably should have used solid core, would have been easier. Didn't have any laying around, still it all came down to my shitty soldering.

Gotta get a better iron, mine is horrific at best...
