Everyone who posted in this thread will rethink things and buy a ps3 if and when this game comes out.
I don't think one game justifies the cost of the machine in general, even if it is the much vaunted new episode of Gradius, Radiant Silvergun, Dodonpachi Daioujou, whatever. If anything, most of the people with an intelligent brain in their heads will buy the game first, and wait for the price of the console to drop dramatically. Same goes with any other kind of shmup (or other genre) release potentially slated for the console.

There'd have to be at least ten AAA-grade games on the console before I would consider dropping $800 on it.

There is going to be a cheaper version of the ps3 available.

I agree with you though. For me to drop 499 plus tax on a video game console, it better be worth it.

Hell, I haven't even bought a 360 yet. I'll go over to my friends house and play geometry wars occasionaly though.

So, either you were playing at friend's or in a, err, not-so-legal way, or you just missed a lot!! You are lucky that Wii comes with Virtual Console
Pssstt! Don't tell anyone! :)

I actually owned a GBA for like 1 1/2 year but I didn't pay for it. I also had a borrowed N64 at my house for like 6 months, for which I rented a lot of games.

Other than that, it was all played from friends or emulation indeed :) I actually had a lot of nice gaming friend which had many Nintendo systems :)

£425 fukk it, an big HD TV is hard enough to get for under £550...

I'm buying an xbox 1 for £50 off ebay with ninja gaiden and panzer dragoon orta and halo 1 and 2. Going to save me some cash

Anyone remember £500 for a PAL N64? if ps3 drops to 200-250£ then maybe, not worth the money for a launch console.

I actually think microsoft will really improve on their previous console performance

Wow :D
I mean

wow :D

Is this some kind of excuse or explaination? It looks like a high shot of the Prince of arrogantland.
But I bet that behind his declaration there's a precise, aggressive and well planned marketing politic. If you think they're a bunch of dumb monkeys, think again Probably they think it will take them somewhere, and I bet it will. Videogamers generally are easy to influence. Now you're all upset for sony's pricing, and sony knows that. Probably it's a trap, or a way to make people speak about them endlessly.
Much like nintendo did with Wii. Nobody was hardly talking about the Revolution, because it was already well assimilated by the gaming scene and people just sat and quietly waited for it to come out.
Now that they've come up with this "supposedly" shocking name, everybody discovered Nintendo again - I've seen threads about the Wii on forums that would hardly have started a thread on Revolution - merely started by this "OMGGGGG I WON'T BUY THE NEXT NINTENDO BECAUSE I CAN'T SAY "WEE" IN PUBLIC ^____^". Bullshit, of course, but there, marketing scheme successful.

Sony is probably doing the same, probably in a more subtile and less blatant way than Nintendo (as they've always done) and people are still talking a lot about them. You can't imagine how many supposedly self-harming schemes company like to make up to make people speak about them. Then they need a small fix or something good and gamers buy the console, buy games, and then if they speak arse about them they don't care anymore - they sold you their product. I'm referring to the people who constantly insulted microsoft and are now playing Oblivion on an X360 (me, for example :P ).
90% of the gamers, probably more normal/heavy gamers than supadupa-hardcore gamers, are kind of whores. And having worked for a game company for years, I've realized it well :D.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

The whole industry has turned me away from it. All this BS about pricing and Wii controllers and such. MS with HD gaming at $60 a pop.

Keep it.

I'll buy a PS3 for BR if stuff like Tom and Jerry comes out on it, because if Tom and Jerry come out on it just about everything else will be on it.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

this "strategy" probably owns more to suits who think they can get away with it thanks to the magic of "branding" than to Machiavel.

Only that the Nintendo marketing strategy is playing with our heads, while Sony's is playing with our wallets. Most people have a way of sobering up real quick when you play with their wallets. We can all see what they're trying to do, and the only trick they're playing is that they're not playing tricks. They want to change the way we think about the machine, and the laws of consumer society are on their side. After all, we classify products by price. An expensive toaster is a cheap Ferrari. Says Markus to Mike about his limited edition Porsche:"Damn right it's limited, no cupholder. Just a shiny dick with two chairs in it." Methinks the VG market is about to diversify, only that this Porsche might not even drive faster than the other car.

I still hope enough people sober up before they confirm that price by paying it. We don't need status symbol consoles.
