WTF is this?!?
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

I own nearly 150 original shooters now and have played dozens more over a 30 year span and I still haven't found anything that can match the pure excellence of Radiant Silvergun. I'm not saying that I'd never want to play any other shooter - all of those games have their charms and all (ok, most) are worth playing as they offer different enjoyable experiences. However... few games can match the epic scope of Radiant Silvergun. Few games can match the beautiful music score. Few games can match the you-got-to-be-kidding-me magnitude of bosses. Few games can match the chaning and scoring mechanism. Few games can put you in so many multiple-oh-shit scenarios and still make you feel like you have a chance without cheap deaths (well, there is one moment towards the end which is nearly impossible to survive). Some shooter games can equal or better these traits individually, but none, IMO, can do them all to the same high-level as Radiant Silvergun. Radiant Silvergun doesn't do any single thing better than the other great shooters. Instead, it does all things (native to the genere) to a very high standard - the combination of which brings out its greatness. The game oozes style and class. Silvergun continues to shine brightly in a genre that has its share of really phenomenal games. I think the game is marginally underappreciated because so few have played it (and even fewer take the time to play it properly).
Having said all that, even I wouldn't pay that much for the promo disc (which is a whole lot more rare than actual copies of RS). But - to each their own - the buyer must have felt it was worth it and based on some of the things I've bought in the past, I shouldn't cast stones
I'd love to know what the differences are between this and the actual released game.

Saying that a game is not *that* brilliant--what does that mean?
A brilliant game is a brilliant game. There are no levels in brilliantness. Brilliant is striking, illustrious, distinguinshed--at least according to my dictionary. Radiant Silvergun is all these things. It's 5/5, 10/10, 100/100. That's what brilliant is.
But let's assume for a moment that RS is really not *that* brilliant (whatever that's supposed to mean).
What shooter is?

It's not a new trend to say RSG isn't very good. I think RSG sucks. Of course when I say that, there is always someone else to tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about and how stupid I am. Don't you realize that not everyone loves the precious Silver Gun?AFXisatwin wrote:Is it the new trend now, to say this? Radiant Silvergun is a kick ass game in its own right. You only wish you could make a game this cool. And Radiant Silvergun isn't *that* brilliant anyway.
BTW... I use my RSG as a coaster for my coffee.

yeah, this shits whack!
Actually the one and only copy of RS that I own is the promo copy that I got for like $90 (US) about five months before Ikaruga came out. The *ONLY* difference is a small "for promotional use only" message on the disk. It was great 'cause I just wanted to play the game cheap but I still find myself being tempted by the regular edition with it's hypnotic packaging...

And the buyer will probably kick his own ass when he finds out he's been had.

Hmm, as much as I'm amazed, I don't know if I want to blast this guy for paying that much. Truthfully, I may have done something similar under certain circumstances... collectors tend to be a bit strange, y'know! Though personally, I'd have to carefully consider any "promo" game auction... if there are no (or only negligable) changes from the promo to the final, then all you've bought is a 600 dollar copy of a game you already own!
But if I saw something, like, a promo of Cybernator, I may be willing to spend 50-60 dollars since I know that there were some signifigant changes. Much less then 600, no doubt, but I'm sure some people would still find the sum offensive ('cept for the seller, of course!)
