I played a cabinet shmup must have been around 1985. From what I can remember it was a topscroller and the ship could be upgraded by adding pieces to it that you could collect. I think there were some kind of cylinder canisters... and the background animation was colorfull.
It was the first videogame I layed my eyes upon. Please help me find out which one it was...

Thank you for all the hints. I have checked out all the screenshots but I'm still looking. It was a very long time ago so I'm not exactly sure if I will remember it when I see it. All I know is that it was available as an coin operated machine in sweden, maybe 1980-1995. So it could have been an even older game but probably not newer than 1995.
