New GCOMPSW Potential Issue

My new gcompsw works fine when I have a console powered up. However, when I turn my console off and there is no signal being sent to the gcompsw the screen flashed different colors very fast. Is this normal? Any help would be appreciated. I hope I did not post this information in the wrong place. I am new here and do not know what I am doing. Thanks in advance for any help.
