This topic is briefly discussed in the Savon-Pat interview if I recall. He does recommend a fan on these old monitors as heat is the biggest enemy of their long term health. Always an exhaust, never an intake.
I have no idea how you would go about wiring that up. I emailed Pat about it and he said it was possible and he was willing to talk it through with me over the phone for my BVM D20. We ended up talking about other stuff and I forgot to bring it up. If you're serious then I'd recommend calling him. He is amazingly friendly and oddly willing to shoot the shit with internet strangers.
