Saturn controller to be released on PS2

Post by LoneSage »

From Gamespot.com:

TOKYO--Sega announced today that it will release the classic Sega Saturn controller, which has been reconfigured as a peripheral for the PlayStation 2, in Japan. The units will hit retailers on March 24 and will retail for the price of 2,280 yen ($22).

The Sega Saturn gamepad will be released in black only, to match the color of the standard PlayStation 2 console. The L1 and R1 buttons have been allocated to the Saturn's Z and C button positions (which are the two buttons at the very right of the pad). The L2 and R2 have been assigned to the two buttons available on the sides of the pad.

The Saturn PS2 controller also comes with a select button, which wasn't featured on the original.

After playing KOF on the Saturn and then KOF on the PS2, I had an epiphany and realized the D-Pad and buttons suck ass on the PS2 controller for fighters.

Thanks Sega.

I love you guys.

Hot dog, I knew this sounded familiar. Thanks.

$22 for this is a grand deal indeed. Has anyone played that Neo-Geo PS2 pad that came with KOF 94 ReBout?

Sega Saturn controller for the PS2 question...

Post by dave4shmups »

Do you know if this would work on an American PSTwo? I've been told that controllers are usually region-free, but I just thought I'd ask anyway.

Yes, controllers for PS2 (and most consoles) are region-free.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I just ordered it. Now I'll find out how great it's supposed to be. It would be nice to use a d-pad for PS2 shmups, and this one looks okay.

I've been using the dualshock analog stick all this time (*gasp*), but I've been preferring the d-pad on my Saitek P880 for mame shmups so I would like a similar experience on the PS2, finally.

Yeah, really nice price. Why don't they just ask $99 for it.
You can make out they'd really like to.
