Can anyone tell me what this game is called?

Post by Stu - Pid »

Hi guys, first post so please be gentle...

I'm trying to find the name of a game that I played (and loved) in my youth. It was about 1987- 88 that I played it and it was a vertical scrolling affair.

It was fairly standard with the ship scrolling over a futuristic landscape and there were silver squares that you could shoot that would reveal letters. These letters indicated the power up and the power ups included extra speed, extra bullets and extra lives. The stand out feature though (that will hopefully make someone recognise it) was that there were also 4 pieces of a power up ship to collect, and when you had all 4 a new special power up would appear in a bar at the bottom of the screen. These were meant to be used against the end of level bosses and there were about 6- 8 of them which included:

'fire' - where a long straight jet of orange flames would come out of your ship for a few seconds

'nuclear' - a nuclear missle that wiped out enemies

'thunder' - this was the top power up which caused electric sparks to come out of the ship and then the screen shook and eveything on screen was killed

If anyone recognises the above, please let me know what it was called as I'd love to find an emulated version of it.

Thanks

Excellent. I've just googled it and checked the screenshots and it was indeed Alpha Mission. Give that man a banana.

I'm downloading as I write. Thanks!

It goes by A.S.O. (Armored Scrum Object) under the Japanese version.
