from the write-up...
Zuho is playing Black Label, so TAC decides to give it a try when she's done.
I took that as "Zuho was playing Black Label. TAC gave it a try when she was done playing whatever she was playing." Obviously the wrong context. But that's why I thought of him as a her. Oops.

In past SBOs, the organizers were gracious enough to install American style controls for the US players. I don't think it is an issue for their humiliation.

Zuho is a girl. She runs MAGATTA BANANA. TAC (yes, Clover-TAC) is a guy. Glad you enjoyed it. One of the few things I really liked writing. Guess I did mess that up though... does sound like I got the genders backwards. :)

why don't I know jack about 3S? Because I placed emphasis on the Q part?

I mean, I didn't say that Q was the worst character in the game or anything (that would be Sean), but he's debatably bottom-tier. It's not like winning with him is completely hopeless, especially against the god tier (Yun/Chun/Ken). But he has to work his ass off and hope for the opponent to make a big mistake if he wants damage (and hope they give him enough openings to get 3 taunts off for the extra defense). The other characters just have way more options on how to do damage to him.

Oh, and emphasis was placed on the Q part because he is really not a popular character, especially nowadays where everyone is whoring the god tiers. Other than Kuroda's videos, there's barely anything in the way of Q match videos out there. Practically nobody plays him serious in tournaments, you might see someone playing him in casual play though (even I give him a play every now and then just for the hell of it).

Please don't tell me that I don't know jack about 3rd Strike. I'm not like the best player ever, but I do consider myself to be at least "somewhat competent" at it.

Well, less so, but there is still a big difference between playing in a group vs playing alone, even in a solo game.

I forget who said it, but someone here was talking to a top Japanese player (in shmups), and the Japanese player said something along the lines of: "When I get a high score, it's kind of a group high score, because I see and talk to other players every day, trading strategies and actually see things being done." Now you can trade strats on forums and watch superplays, but it is no replacement for actually being able to see and talk to top players day to day and experience strategies evolving first hand.

This actually reminds me of playing shooters in my Neo Geo phase. We were a whole bunch of people meeting regularly, not in arcades, but we met and played. One guy I was in constant contact with because we were the designated shmuppos, while everyone except me was into fighters. Now that I think about it, that time was highly competitive AND motivating, and it was only one guy. I'd put the effect of a living scene mainly down to earthly motivation, not godly skill. Having that around you on a daily basis, and not on the virtual plane, is intoxicating. I remember that fucker beating Viewpoint and I was stuck at the 4th boss. My god I gotta go play Viewpoint and cry...

Every morning, they have a shift coming in dropping a score on each cab. And it all looks so natural, like they just strolled in. There's the girl annihilating a false sense of male self-esteem you didn't even know about and a guy who looks like a fashion model looping Ketsui in between hot sessions of sunday morning squishy with his model girlfriend. You were LUCKY they didn't have the pre-schoolers there accidentally 1CCing games they can't even spell the names of or you'd have thrown yourself in front of the next car!

It's called "demoralize the foreign threat".

Thanks for the thread. Intended or not, that was a fun read. Too horrible not to be a nightmare. I really can picture it.
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

I seriously need to find some of theses arcades that have these "SHMUP gods" I keep hearing about, I can never find anyone that will last more than 1 minute without credit feeding around here. Any good places near the tri cities in michigan?

All the arcades with God's are in Japan you'll find few here and less you attend Twin Galaxy events.

Were in Michigan do you live? I'm from there myself.

BLACK LABEL

Post by DEL »

 - RAM was really humble too! I remember him being excited about the arrival of Ibara in his arcades. Impressive guy, and pretty much the only top Japanese player who has taken the time and effort to talk to us. (Accepting the fact that the language barrier is probably stopping others that may wish to do so  ).

For some bizzare reason EVERY arcade in my area has Sammy's Extreme Hunting, which is a complete pile of crap but still manages to get money out of me...

I go to Dave & Busters and play all the gun games. I can't get enough Police Trainer 2 and these 2 games that rely on body movement for dodging bullets and such (a killer on the legs!).

And they have 1 deer killer game. You choose from 6 animals and go hunting with occasional bonus games. Fun fun fun =)
