Hi guys!
Today I got a new game for Sega Saturn on E-Bay from Japan called Gekirindan which I think is my favorite vertical shooter for Saturn because of the following:
1.It has excellent graphics with lots of cool zooming effects and other cool special effects. I love the evil CGI robot hovering above the earth in the demo, it absolutely rules!
2.The music and sound effects in this game are awesome. There's lots of cool explosion sound effects and I love the music because it sounds like the kind of music you would hear in a 1980's sci-fi anime. I especially love the music in level 5 where it starts off with some cheesy synthisizers for music before switching to techno later in the music.
3.The characters in game are really cool. My favorite character in Anne, she is absolutely super cute and really cool. I'm not a big fan of cute 'em ups but she is one of the cutest characters in a shooter. I have a big crush on her, she is one cool girl! There's also the cool guy Hokouto and two children with elf ears as well.
4.The gameplay is excellent. It's very maniac when you first begin and the enemies don't let up and you also get to fight cool bosses like a giant blimp, a giant tank, and a flying skull-faced monster that looks like it out of Outzone. One of the character's superbombs is where a big explosion with a skull face appears covering the whole screen, kinda like Truxton, only better!
The only problem with this game is that it's very short with only 5 levels which means the game is over in 25-30 minutes. Other than that, this is one of the best vertical shooters for Sega Saturn. Gulf War II ain't got nothin' on this game or that cute girl in the game called Anne!

Well, at least you're a Gekirindan fan, that counts for something.
Bit of a Geki fan myself. One of my most frequently played games for the Saturn.
