I was wanting to play some VC games, on the Wii, and decided to use my Raphnet SNES to GC adapter, so I would have less lag.
In SNES mode, all the SNES games work perfectly. As in, the buttons are where they are supposed to be. However, when playing any other system (Neo Geo, Genesis), the Y button is remapped to X. As you can imagine, this is really annoying. It's also incredibly strange. No other mapping fixes this issue.
I was thinking about buying the Classic Controller to GameCube adapter, as I was thinking it might work more properly. But... I have no idea. And due to Covid, it's going to take over 2 months to reach me.
Does anyone have the CC to GC adapter, and can vouch that the Y button works in Genesis and Neo Geo games? Has anyone else had the issue with the SNES adapter?

Which is which? It's supposed to be like that:evil_ash_xero wrote:the Y button is remapped to X
Genesis -> Wii
X -> L
Y -> X
Z -> R
So Y is X is exactly how it's supposed to be, unless you mean something else.

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
Yeah, I am talking about something else. The A button on a Genesis controller would be the Y button on the Classic controller, or a SNES pad. I'm not talking about the X Y and Z buttons on the six button Genesis pad.
It works fine on the Classic Controller, but for some reason, while using a Raphnet adapter, the SNES pad doesn't work right. Y switches to X (the buttons on the CC), and you can't use Y for anything. Well, not in SNES mode. Unless you're playing an SNES game, and everything works as it should.

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
I have never had any issues with inconsistent mapping on my Raphnet SNES2GC adapter. I have never used it on a Wii, though, so maybe somehow the Wii is triggering an alternative map. You can change to an alternative mapping by holding start when plugging the adapter-controller combo into the console. I use that when playing GameBoy on my GBP with GBI. It's sweet.
This may be a known issue. I would first contact the man at support@raphnet-tech.com .
How long have you had the adapter? Newer revisions have an updatable firmware. You may be able to fix this issue by updating.
Check this page for information on alternative mappings and how to enable them. Maybe manually enabling your chosen mapping will fix this

Mine is an older revision, I've had it for a couple of years, but it has been rock solid for me the whole time. Please let us know if you are able to get this issue resolved.

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
I think the issue is both that the Virtual Console has awkward mapping for Gamecube controllers (the button letters correspond exactly 1:1 between SNES and Gamecube), and that Raphnet doesn't have a mapping that compensates for that.
See these links, might be a bit tricky to figure out:

Personally, for Wii, instead of VC, I just use emulation via Homebrew Channel. The emulators work great and the buttons are all custom mappable there.

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
I sent him a message. I'll see if I get a response.
Looking at those pics, it seems as if the A on a Genesis controller SHOULD be mapped to Y. Why it's not, I have no idea. As said, what makes it so weird, is that everything works properly on SNES games.
What in the world about a Genesis or Neo Geo game make the Y get remapped to X, I can only imagine. Maybe I can update the firmware, and that would fix it.
Of course, I'd have to buy an item to do that.
I've tried every single one of those mappings on his support page.

Well, one question I'd like to throw out there is: Do any of you have the CC to GC adapter? Does it work properly? Say, like in Metal Slug, does the Y button throws grenades?

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
Raph got in touch with me, a while back. They didn't take into account how the Wii mapped the GC buttons (in regards to VC games).
So, yes, it is an issue. I would hope they would put in a firmware update or something, but... I'm not gonna ask.
I don't have tremendous luck when asking someone, who makes these kind of things, to "update" something.
EDIT: I went ahead and asked. I don't expect anything.
So, if you want to get a SNES to GC/Wii converter, for Neo Geo and Genesis VC titles... don't.

Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
About 8 years ago I asked Raphnet if there was a way for my Gamecube ASCII keyboard controller to work with my Raphnet Gamecube to USB adapter to accept keyboard inputs. He bought a Gamecube ASCII keyboard controller online and less than a month later released an adapter with new firmware that was compatible. I think there’s a good chance he will eventually get around to it.evil_ash_xero wrote:Raph got in touch with me, a while back. On a related note, are there input lag measurements for all Raphnet adapters? I know that there are measurements out there somewhere for SNES to GC/Wii, but I’m interested in knowing the numbers for the other adapters as well.
Re: Peculiar issue with Raphnet SNES to GC Adapter
raphnet has latency estimates for most of his adapters on his store.
