Twin Cobra and Gulf War II

Post by Jac2Mac »

Hi guys!

I remember playing Twin Cobra at Funspot in New Hampshire and thought it was one of the coolest but hardest shooters ever released from Toaplan. A year later, I downloaded Gulf War II in MAME and noticed how similar the game is to Twin Cobra. Has anyone noticed how similar Comad's Gulf War II is to Taito's Twin Cobra?

Jac2macs world record attempt at most locked threads in a week gathers pace...

It's now a race against time until the inevitable ban.

Jac2Mac is a postmodern critic of internet discussion forums. His commentary and tactics are very subtle; he is perhaps too wise for us to appreciate at this time. I am printing out all of his posts for serious study and to preserve them for future generations.

I'm thinking it's a joke, at this point. There's a chance that the guy is really naive and non-confrontational, but I think it's small.

I don't envy the mods. At least it's entertaining at times... I enjoyed Cigs' thread a whole lot:
Thanks, now why is Virginia Ham good?
I almost wet myself when I read that.

Maybe a topic of which car he should choose, what brand of underwear to buy, what color dress he should wear could be in his future.

hi guys!

actually i think jac2mac has rendered a valuable service here - i'd never heard of comad but they are great - gulf storm 2 is a truly hilarious rip of TC and has the worst music i've ever heard. I'm now sitting at work listening to it's wonderful mongness via the m1 player, a joyful experience.

thanks guy!

if nothing else, Gulf War II certainly has one of the best title screens in arcade history.

 Is that a brain wave I see between them? Or is it anger? They look pleased. They finally found each other? Looks gay.

ROFLMBO!!!!!

Seriously, Gulf War II sucks. Hard. The only games of that type that come close to besting Twin Cobra/Kyukyoku Tiger are the Raiden clones that don't suck (like R Shark).

Gulf War II? Bleh. I'd just rather play Twin Cobra. The graphics aren't nearly as good and the music seems to be a pale imitation of TC's style. It's decent playing, but then again Twin Cobra does that and everything else.

That title screen is hilarious in itself though.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

It isn't just similar to Twin Cobra, it's an elaborately-disguised bootleg of Twin Cobra. A lot of Korean-made arcade games were bootlegs of Japanese games with some or all of the graphics replaced (and frequently with "cheesecake" pictures incongruously added--the version of Bubble Bobble with photographs of half-naked ladies as backdrops behind the familiar abstract cartoon graphics must be seen to be believed!)

Gulf War II is a complete rip off of Twin Cobra. The game play, the enemy beheavior, the level design... :x
