Looking for hardware and "trainer' advice.

I want to play shooters controlling both ships at once (e.g. Raiden Overkill, Ikaruga), but practicing both ships at once is a pain in game. Especially difficult is the "brain crossover" feeling when the ships cross. Is there a bullet dodging trainer that let's you practices against bullet styles while having a duel ship option?

I also have an X-Arcade, and I realize the default components aren't very good. What hardware would be good for Raiden, etc? I want a joystick where minimum motion can produce accurate movements - so you can "flick around" with accuracy.
