Tips for printing arcade stick art?

Post by Mischief Maker »

Thanks for the recent suggestions, I've ordered a Mayflash F500 Elite. It arrives tomorrow and I expect it to be an excellent stick, but the default (lack of) art is so ugly it screams for some custom art. So here's something I whipped up in GIMP using their provided template and some desktop art for Cloudphobia:

Any tips on where/how to print it? Is FedEx/Kinkos on cardstock good enough? Is it worth paying extra for a company that'll cut the holes out for me? (I'd rather not buy a whole Xacto knife set for a single project). Can anyone suggest a good printer?

Also, aside from the white text on some of the missile trails (unfortunate but I can live with it) does anyone spot any rookie errors with this art that'll come back to haunt me if I don't fix them now?

Thanks in advance!

Here's an alternate artwork with a Cho Ren Sha theme that'll go better with the default black buttons:

I was recently looking into the same thing. My Mace:TDA control panel has some blemishes on the artwork and I couldnt find a replacement, so I was looking into scanning or using high res photographs to digitally correct the blemishes on the PC and then have a print done.

Fortunately I was able to find an actual replacement for $40 so I just went that route.

I would think if you could find a company that could print on PVC or vinyl, that would be better than cardstock. Supposedly, most inkjet printers can print on PVC sheets with no issue.

I like to over extend my printing, that way I can easily cut out using the acrylic template glass that comes with the mayflash. I would try to print A3 or Large says as big as I can at Office Depot, I use their card stock gloss, they have no matte.

Ok, so keep in mind I am no graphics designer, I suck at art but later I hope to pay a real designer and a better print job when I came into some cash, here is the cover I use:

I will post up how it looks on my arcade stick later when I charge my phone. Hey, I know its crap but whatever, I like it. My favorite 2d fighter. Can you guess the game?

I love it! Do you mind sharing the psd file, I would love to put it on my mayflash stick.
